GMC Hummer EV Wins J.D. Power 2025 Canada ALG Residual Value Awards

The GMC Hummer EV, in both its GMC Hummer EV SUV and GMC Hummer EV Pickup variants, achieved first place in its segments in the J.D. Power 2025 Canada ALG Residual Value Awards.

The Hummer EV Pickup took the award for the Electric Truck segment, while the Hummer EV SUV is the top model in the Premium Electric SUV segment.

The two variants of the GMC Hummer EV are joined by two other GMC vehicles that placed first in their segments for the 2025 awards. The other models, however, are ICE vehicles and not battery-electric models, making the Hummer stand out as the only General Motors EV model to win awards. Tesla and Kia models won the other two EV segments.

Notably, the Hummer EV also won awards in the U.S. 2025 Residual Value Awards. It is somewhat unusual for models to achieve success in both Canada and U.S. markets in the J.D. Power awards, making the electric variant of the Hummer a rare example of holding residual value even against stiff competition.

J.D. Power gives the residual value awards to those models which hold their value best over three years for premium models, or four years for mass-market nameplates. Many factors are considered in the forecast, including the past retention of value by similar vehicles, the brand’s overall quality and success, and current market factors.

The information is useful for companies that want to figure out how much value will remain in a given model at the end of a lease. Furthermore, it can be of assistance to consumers as well. J.D. Power managing director Danny Battaglia remarks that picking a winning vehicle “helps raise residual performance and provides long-term value for shoppers that are buying in a competitive market.”

GMC was the best-performing U.S.-based automaker in the survey with four models. As usual, Toyota held value best, with seven models winning in their segments.

J.D. Power picked 32 winners of individual segments out of 282 models in total that were competing for the award. The study used sophisticated analysis to determine the best vehicles in all categories from a residual value standpoint.
