GMC Acadia Driver Takes Out Speeding Dodge Charger: Video

It’s not uncommon to see some drivers habitually neglect to use their turn signals. Doing so doesn’t always end in disaster, but it certainly ramps up the risks of driving. Now, we’re watching what happens when two drivers neglect to signal at the same time, leading to a collision between a GMC Acadia crossover and a speeding Dodge Charger.

A GMC Acadia moments before an accident.

The video is just a few seconds long, and shows the impact multiple times. The video was captured by a rear-facing camera mounted on another vehicle.

In the video, we see dry pavement and good visibility, with sunny skies above. Traffic is moving at a good clip in both directions. The vehicle with the camera is seen traveling in the middle lane, with a red GMC Acadia trailing behind the camera vehicle.

“I was on my way to work heading North on the FDR Drive in New York City when I saw in my rearview a red SUV quickly closing in behind me,” the video description reads.

As the video progresses, we see the red GMC Acadia  move over to the left lane without signaling. Suddenly, a Dodge Charger appears right next to the red GMC, quickly accelerating around it. We then see the Dodge sedan rock upwards as it collides with the rear of the GMC crossover, its wheels leaving the pavement with the collision. The GMC bucks back and forth, swerving between the two lanes as the Dodge Charger comes crashing back down.

The two vehicles ricochet between one another, with the rear-facing camera capturing the collision in detail. The GMC Acadia swerves to the right before turning back into the Dodge Charger, colliding with it one more time before both vehicles come to a halt.

It’s unclear exactly what happened, beyond the obvious poor decision making on the part of both drivers. The driver in the GMC Acadia may have been moving to cut off the Dodge Charger as the latter attempted to accelerate by, or maybe both drivers simply failed to see one another.

  1. That’s why I won’t drive a sedan. They might just both be idiots in this case, but that’s not always how it goes. And the sedan did noticeably worse than the SUV, either way. I’m good on that, all the way.

  2. The other issue that’s causing accidents is the blind spot monitoring system.
The light in the mirror isn’t on so it’s ok to change lanes…… right…..
Most blind spot monitoring systems don’t turn on soon enough when a vehicle is passing at a high rate of speed. They need to come on before a vehicle gets beside you.

  3. Don’t blame technology; this is a simple case of both drivers being aggressive idiots more interested in speed and speeding than responsible situational awareness. That said, legally the red GMC precipitated the accident because he was switching lanes and rammed the black Charger.

  4. Reminder to always to turn your head to look before lane change, though the Charger swung-out from behind at a high differential speed and a very close gap between he and the GMC.
Also shows how good the concrete divider barrier works! Possibly saved lives.
