GM Expects This EV Wholesale Target In 2025

GM continues to grow is all-electric vehicle business, doubling its EV market share last year and aiming to electrify the entirety of its light-duty vehicle portfolio by 2035. Additionally, General Motors has set its sights on a wholesale EV target of approximately 300,000 units for the 2025 calendar year.

To note, the 2025 wholesale EV target includes vehicles destined for dealerships as well as other manufacturers, rather than just direct retail sales. As such, this figure likely includes EVs produced in collaboration with Honda, such as the Honda Prologue and Acura ZDX.

The Chevy Equinox EV led GM EV sales in the U.S. last quarter.

The ambitious EV goal was outlined during the automaker’s recent fourth quarter 2024 earnings presentation, which also highlighted General Motors’ latest successes with regard to EV profitability. General Motors reported that it had achieved variable profit positivity in its EV portfolio by the end of 2024, marking a 35-percent improvement year-over-year compared to the fourth quarter of the 2023 calendar year.

General Motors also projects a year-over-year EBIT tailwind at the lower end of its $2 billion to $4 billion target for the 2025 calendar year, based on the wholesale EV volume estimate.

The company’s EV strategy combines aggressive scaling of production with a commitment to achieving profitability, all while maintaining relative affordability for consumers. One of key technologies in GM’s success is its battery system previously branded as Ultium, which underpins the entirety of its expanding EV portfolio, including models like the Chevy Blazer EV, Chevy Equinox EV, and Chevy Silverado EV.

The Chevy Equinox EV in particular has been instrumental in GM’s growing electric vehicle business. General Motors’ EV sales increased 363 percent in Q4 of 2024 to 43,976 units, with the Chevy Equinox EV leading the charge at 18,089 units sold. The second-best selling GM EV was the Cadillac Lyriq, which sold 8,084 units, followed by the Chevy Blazer EV with 7,883 units and the GMC Hummer EV with 5,091 units. The Chevy Equinox EV, Cadillac Lyriq, and Chevy Blazer EV all ride on the GM BEV3 platform and utilize Ultium battery technology.

  1. They have clearly lost their minds.

  2. Reminder: In 2021 GM projected 400,000 EVs produced annually by the end of 2023. GM stuck by that number in late 2022. They went on to sell less than 80,000 in 2023.

In 2023 they estimated 400,000 EVs produced annually by mid-2024. By April they revised that number down to 300,000. By October they revised it further down to 200,000. They sold only 189,000.

In 2024 they estimated 1 million EVs produced annually by the end of 2025. Now this number is revised down to 300,000.

If there’s anything I trust about GM projections, it’s that they will be revised and reduced. Don’t trust the projections. It’s meant for the investors, not for consumers.

    2. Cool. Now do Tesla’s projections for the Semi, Cybertruck, Roadster, 4680 batteries, and Full Self Driving.

      1. Not many give AF about Tesla’s numbers either. They are just another EV manufacturer. If you want one, buy one.

  3. The numbers will further shoot up with the intro of the new generation Bolt. GM EV’s are competing in a full range of price levels as well as a in a wide range of market segments.
It won’t be a surprise when people start dumping their Tesla stock and buying GM shares.

    1. I agree that GM will be selling more BEV’s in the future. It will come in the way of the second Gen BEV Platform in which China operations is basically in control of the development.
Rumor is it will have 900 V Architecture (HUGE if true) and can accept pretty much any Batter Pack type. Most importantly it will be way cheaper to build and weigh MUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCH less (Finally)

Now as far as investors selling off Tesla stock for GM stock I completely disagree with you sorry. Tesla is not a good comparison because they are not a True automaker but mostly a Tech Company.
