General Motors has just announced the appointment of a new president for The Durant Guild business arm in China.
The automaker’s China subsidiary announced that Jim Campbell is the new president of the premium import and lifestyle platform The Durant Guild, taking over the role immediately following the departure of Leon Li. GM China reported that Li has left the company and his leadership role in the import business arm has been assumed by Campbell, currently the company’s director of products in the Chinese market.
“GM will bring more exciting products and technologies to consumers in China via various channels,” said GM Senior Vice President and President of GM China, Steve Hill. “Jim and his team will build on a holistic strategy to achieve the best synergy among our business units, including joint ventures and the import organization in The Durant Guild,” he added.
Notably, Jim Campbell will now hold two senior positions in GM China’s leadership structure by retaining his current role as Chief Product Officer and taking on the additional new role as President of The Durant Guild – which imports halo vehicles manufactured in the United States. In this regard, the executive will continue to report to Steve Hill as the top leader of all GM business arms in the Asian country.
As such, Jim Campbell’s expanded responsibilities within the company now include overseeing vehicle portfolio planning, product marketing and the accessories range for the automaker’s entire product line in China. This encompasses both locally manufactured vehicles for the domestic market, export and import, as well as The Durant Guild operations.
In addition to his expanded duties in The Durant Guild, Campbell will continue to lead GM Performance & Global Motorsports. He has extensive experience with high-performance vehicles and works across a variety of racing series including NASCAR, IMSA, FIA World Endurance Championship, IndyCar, NHRA and Best in the Desert. Campbell joined GM China from the United States in June 2024, leading product portfolio planning, marketing, export and accessories.
