Chevy Camaro Driver Attempts Burnout, Hits Concrete Divider Instead: Video

Rear-wheel-drive performance cars can be a lot of fun to drive, but they still demand respect from the individual behind the wheel. Even with relatively modest engine output, things can quickly get out of hand if you don’t know what you’re doing. This truth is painfully evident in an incident involving a late second-generation Chevy Camaro, which ended smashing into a concrete divider after an ill-fated burnout attempt.

A Chevy Camaro driver prepares to peel out.

Found on social media, the video begins with the Chevy Camaro pulling up to an intersection where spectators eagerly await a show. Phones are out, recording as the driver slows down, seemingly ready to impress the crowd with a burnout.

As the driver hits the throttle, the Camaro’s rear tires squeal, and the car’s back end begins to shimmy. The Chevy’s passenger leans out of the window, recording the action as the Camaro surges forward, the rear rubber making the usual noises. However, even though the Camaro doesn’t have the power to sustain a burnout, it’s enough to cause the vehicle to become a little unstable.

It looks like the Camaro starts to dart across the road, and in an attempt to regain control, the driver jerks the steering wheel back and forth. Unfortunately, the situation quickly spirals, and the Camaro veers into a one-foot-tall concrete divider, bouncing over it and into an adjacent lane.

The crash jars the passenger violently, their head striking the door and window frame repeatedly as the suspension bottoms out over the divider. The passenger drops their phone, which smashes into the pavement.

A slow-motion replay emphasizes the harshness of the collision and the passenger’s rough ride. Fortunately, the post accompanying the video confirms that neither the driver nor the passenger was injured in the incident.

Either way, it’s a good reminder to keep things under control, even if onlookers are goading you to do something silly. After all, those folks just want something to post – even if it’s a crash.

    1. Think they had Moe in the trunk? I don’t see him anywhere, possibly he took the vid.

  5. That was the weakest burnout I’ve ever seen…especially for one hyped by the occupants to be a real burner…not to mention the driver couldn’t control even that slow spin.
    A couple of rookies.

    1. He may as well keep watching the reruns of, “The Dukes of Hazzard”, and give up on any aspirations he might have as a professional race card driver.

      1. That’s supposed to be car driver, not card driver. I sometimes do not proofread carefully enough.
