Cadillac Sollei And Opulent Velocity Win EyesOn Design Awards

The winners have been announced for the 2025 EyesOnDesign Awards at the Detroit Auto Show, and half of the winners are Cadillacs. The Cadillac Sollei earned the Innovative Use of Color, Graphics or Material award, and the Cadillac Opulent Velocity won the Best Concept Vehicle accolade.

“A worldwide group of leading automotive designers and design educators have selected the winners of the 18th EyesOn Design Awards, recognizing exceptional design in production and concept vehicles that made their public debut between August 2023 – 2024,” EyesOn Design said in a statement.

The other two winners of the 2025 EyesOn Design awards are the BMW Vision Neue Klasse X for Best Designed Interior and the Karma Kaveya for Best Production Vehicle.

The Cadillac Sollei concept was unveiled in July 2024. Essentially a two-door drop-top version of the Celestiq, the ultra-lux convertible concept reimagines the traditional luxury convertible as a cutting-edge, high-tech EV.

A month later, Cadillac revealed the scintillating new Opulent Velocity concept, which showcased the luxury marque’s vision for an all-electric hypercar that melds lavish appointments with bewildering performance into a single, butterfly-doored showstopper.

The 2025 judges represent a wide swath of the automotive industry. Two GM alumni include retired Vice President of Design Wayne Cherry and recently retired Senior Vice President of Global Design Michael Simcoe.

Cherry began his work at GM in 1962 and was on the team that designed the original Chevy Camaro and Pontiac Firebird. He made huge contributions to Cadillac design at the turn of the 21st century, having designed the first three generations of the Escalade, the first-generation CTS, and the Cadillac Sixteen concept from 2003. Mike Simcoe has a similarly impressive resume, which includes various Holden designs, the Buick Avenir concept from 2015, and supervision of design teams on the Cadillac CTS and Chevy Camaro.

Given their backgrounds, we have a pretty good idea of how these two GM design legends voted in this year’s EyesOn Design awards. However, much of the rest of the panel, which includes designers from Ford, Stellantis, Honda, and various design firms, must have been in agreement that 2024 was a great year for Cadillac concepts.

  1. And then paired with the buggy software with broken apps that takes forever to refresh? I get you can never reach Tesla level in terms of software but at least please invest in your software engineers better and they will make the improvement to attract customers back.

  2. The Sollei is flat out gorgeous and the kind of car that would absolutely boost the Cadillac brand image, especially if there was a hardtop coupe version. And the result of that would be spill over to the entire Cadillac lineup.
