2024 was a good year for GM in Canada. One of the bright spots in its annual sales results was the Cadillac luxury brand. With 16,560 units sold, it was Cadillac’s best sales year ever in Canada for the third year in a row.
Cadillac first broke through the 15,000 sales mark in Canada in 2022. It sold even more vehicles in 2023 by a factor of 268 units, and 2024 marked the first time the brand netted over 16,000 sales in the North American country.
Cadillac’s sales performance in Canada was good for a seven-percent increase compared to the prior year. This was largely driven by EV sales, with the Lyriq accounting for 22 percent of the brand’s sales volume. Q4 sales alone shot up a whopping 36.8 percent year over year.
“It was another banner year for GM Canada leading the industry with 15.4 percent share and closing in on the top spot for EV sales in Canada,” said Shane Peever, VP Sales, Service and Marketing for GM Canada. “A huge thanks to the GM team and our dealer partners across the country for delivering outstanding vehicles and technologies that our customers love. With even more new EV and gas-powered models coming to market in 2025, GM is poised for growth with the industry’s best line-up to meet the needs of every Canadian driver.”
Cadillac entered 2025 with a nice momentum, but that momentum could stop with the abrupt end of Canada’s Zero-Emission Vehicles (iZEV) EV rebate program. We recently reported that the Canadian federal EV incentive program was paused indefinitely because the program ran out of money. When it was in effect, it offered Canadians an incentive of up to CA$5,000. It will be interesting to see how this impacts Canadian sales for EVs like the Cadillac Lyriq, Optiq, and Escalade IQ.
More good news from GM Canada’s annual sales report includes sales growth for GM’s other three North American retail brands, 10 quarters of consecutive year-over-year sales growth, the best sales year ever for GMC, and a 109-percent increase in EV sales.
