Buick Encore And Envision Get Special Coverage For Evaporative Emissions Purge Pump Issues

GM has issued a bulletin relating to special coverage of the 2022 Buick Encore, as well as the 2022 Buick Envision and 2023 Buick Envision, for a specific condition related to the evaporative emissions purge pump in certain affected units.

The special Buick Encore and Buick Envision coverage lengthens warranty coverage for the vehicles, but only for the exact problem described in the bulletin.

The specific condition covered is failure of the evaporative emissions purge pump in the affected Buick Encore or Envision units. In certain vehicles, the purge pump will fail, leading to a “check engine” light illuminating on the instrument panel. A diagnostic trouble code or DTC will also set. The fix for this problem is to replace the emissions purge pump.

Thanks to the special coverage extended by GM, owners of affected Buick Encore and Envision vehicles can get the problem fixed free of charge for a longer period. Coverage for that problem, and that problem only, is extended to 15 years or 150,000 miles, whichever comes first. The coverage applies regardless of who currently owns the vehicle.

Owners who bring their vehicles for servicing from January 15th, 2025 onward can get the emissions purge pump replaced for free. Those who already had the pump replaced on January 14th or earlier are eligible for a reimbursement provided they have the proper documentation describing the repair.

As a reminder, the 2022 Buick Encore was motivated by a single powerplant, the turbocharged 1.4L I4 LE2 gasoline engine cranking out 155 horsepower and 177 pound-feet of torque. The Buick Encore was discontinued after the 2022 model year for North America, with the Buick Envista taking its place in the Tri-Shield model lineup.

The 2022 Buick Encore was underpinned by the GM Gamma 2 platform. While production of the crossover model was still under way, it took place at the GM Bupyeong plant located in South Korea.

As for the Envision, the 2022 and 2023 model years were equipped with the turbocharged 2.0L I4 LSY engine developing 228 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The Envision is built at the GM-SAIC Jinqiao plant in China, based on the GM E2 platform.

  1. I just replaced the EVAP Purge Solenoid on my daughter’s 2016 Traverse. $65 part and 10 minute installation. That fixed the engine code and rough idle. Easy fix.
