2025 Chevy Equinox EV Recalled Over Adaptive Cruise Control Braking Issue

General Motors has issued a Safety Recall to address an issue affecting the adaptive cruise control system in the 2025 Chevy Equinox EV. The issue may result on affected vehicles failing to brake as expected.

The problem: affected units of the Chevy Equinox EV may be equipped with a faulty adaptive cruise control system that fails to apply the brake as expected. Adaptive cruise control systems are designed to brake and accelerate the vehicle in order to keep a safe distance between it and the vehicle ahead.

The hazards: Units of the Chevy Equinox EV affected by this issue may fail to brake when adaptive cruise control is active. If the adaptive cruise control system fails to brake the vehicle as expected, it may increase the likelihood of a crash, as drivers may not have sufficient time to slow the vehicle.

The fix: In order to fix this issue GM is advising dealers to update the software calibration for the vehicles’ braking system control module (BSCM). Notably, some unsold vehicles may receive this software update via over-the-air (OTA) software technology.

Affected components: This issue affects the software controlling the BSCM. The BSCM will not require replacement, but rather, the related software may need to be updated.

Affected vehicles: This issue affects units of the 2025 Chevy Equinox EV equipped with AWD, but not Super Cruise. Front-wheel-drive units and AWD units that include Super Cruise are not involved in the recall.

Number of affected vehicles: Approximately 2,890 Chevy Equinox EV units are affected by this issue.

Owners should: Any 2025 Chevy Equinox EV owners who may be affected by this recall will receive an official recall notification letter from GM advising them on next steps to take in order to address the issue. In addition, concerned customers can contact Chevrolet directly using the official Chevy Customer Service number listed below.

  1. I’m glad to hear that part of the recall will be solved with a simple OTA update, but ideally every vehicle should be given this update OTA with A/B (seamless) system updates (once the update is prepared installation is as simple as turning the car off and on again).

This recall should serve as an early indicator why software is by far the most critical element in EVs.

  2. One more proof that electric vehicles are rolling computers.

  3. I’m wondering if dealers have strongarmed GM to not do OtA updates on customer cars so that way your forced to go to the dealer and potentially do other business with them.
