GM had a good year in the North American market in 2024. In particular, it was a historically good year for the GMC brand in Canada. Hitting over 100,000 sales in Canada for the first time, it was GMC’s best sales year in history in the North American country.
“It was another banner year for GM Canada leading the industry with 15.4 percent share and closing in on the top spot for EV sales in Canada,” said Shane Peever, VP Sales, Service and Marketing for GM Canada. “A huge thanks to the GM team and our dealer partners across the country for delivering outstanding vehicles and technologies that our customers love. With even more new EV and gas-powered models coming to market in 2025, GM is poised for growth with the industry’s best line-up to meet the needs of every Canadian driver.”
GMC sales grew 4.2 percent in 2024. That might sound modest, but it was enough to put it over that 100,000 mark for the brand’s best year ever in Canada. It’s the culmination of years of steady growth for the brand since 2020 when it sold 78,391 units.
Overall, at GM Canada, the Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra were the number one and number two best-sellers, respectively. In 2024, Canadian sales grew five percent for the Silverado and 11 percent for the Sierra, bringing the Chevy and GMC a little closer to sales parity.
The third best-seller was the Chevy Equinox EV and interestingly, GM’s fourth best-selling model in Canada in 2024 was the GMC Terrain, beating out the ICE variant of the Chevy Equinox.
In other good news for GM Canada in 2024, Cadillac also had its best sales year ever, with sales up seven percent. Buick saw massive sales growth of 43.7 percent, giving it its best sales year since 2005. Chevy did well, too, with 13.8-percent sales growth, notching its best year in Canada since 2018. Meanwhile, GM EV sales shot up 109 percent compared to 2023, largely driven by the success of the Chevy Equinox EV.
