1973 Chevy Blazer Headed For Glendale Arizona Auction

Bowing for the 1969 model year, the Chevy Blazer was Chevrolet’s response to the success of the International Harvester Scout and the Ford Bronco. The K5 Blazer was larger than either of the other two competitors, as it was built on a shortened K10 pickup truck frame. Initially available only as a 4×4, the Blazer could be had as either a two- or four-wheel-drive vehicle beginning with the 1970 model year. Featuring a full-length lift-off top, the first-generation Blazer would span just 1969 to 1972 model years.

For the 1973 model year, the Chevy Blazer received a fresh look. Second-gen Blazers still had the full-length lift-off hardtop that allowed it to be converted into a true convertible, a feature that would switch to a partial, half-cab removable hardtop in 1976. The rear tailgate glass could be lowered into the tailgate, differing from the hinged top portion of the previous generation. Though the Blazer could still be had in either two-wheel or four-wheel-drive variants, designated as C5 or K5 respectively, most Blazers were equipped with four-wheel drive. Second-generation Blazers would be built from 1973 to 1991, with some styling changes along the way. The Blazer could be powered by a number of different powertrain options, including the standard 250 cubic-inch inline six, the 292 cubic-inch inline six, Small Block V8s in 305, 307, 350, or 400 cubic inches, or even a 6.2-liter Detroit Diesel V8. The 350 Small Block for 1973 was factory rated at 175 horsepower.

Our feature 1973 Chevy Blazer has been the subject of a fastidious nut-and-bolt restoration. It has been refinished in two-tone PPG base coat/clear coat Catalina Blue and Linen White over original body panels. The underbody is protected by Upol Raptor liner in GM Red Oxide. Powering the Blazer is a GM Performance Ramjet fuel-injected 350 Small Block backed by a 700R4 automatic transmission. Other mechanical details include a Borgeson quick-ratio steering box, Wilwood four-wheel disc brakes with stainless steel brake lines, CPP brake booster and master cylinder, Wheel Vintiques ten-inch-wide painted steel wheels with factory hub caps, raised white-letter BFGoodrich All Terrain K02 tires, Superwinch wheel hubs, and true dual exhaust. The Blazer is equipped with power steering, power brakes, custom upholstery, a Vic Hickey-style custom roll bar, Bluetooth head unit, and a hidden receiver hitch.

This exceptional 1973 Chevy Blazer will cross the Mecum Auctions block at their Glendale, Arizona sale March 22nd.
