What To Expect From GMC In 2025

As we roll ahead into the 2025 calendar year, GMC has several significant developments in store. From expanded EV offerings, to updates for some of its more popular ICE-based models, GMC will continue to evolve its lineup with a range of different options. Now, GM Authority is serving up an overview of what to expect from GMC in 2025.

2025 GMC Yukon: Diesel Orders Open

For fans of GM’s diesel powertrains, the updated Yukon brings welcome news. Starting in March, Big Red will open orders for diesel-powered units of the refreshed 2025 Yukon, offering the new-for-2025 3.0L I6 LZ0 Duramax, including on AT4 trims. Arriving as a replacement for the LM2 Duramax offered previously, the LZ0 doles out 305 horsepower and 495 pound-feet of torque.

2025 GMC Sierra EV: New Trims Join the Lineup

Big Red’s electrification efforts will also expand in 2025 with the launch of a few new trims for the Sierra EV, including the entry-level Elevation and off-road-oriented AT4, broadening the Sierra EV’s appeal. We’ve already seen both the Sierra EV Elevation and the Sierra EV AT4 out in the wild, so check out our previous coverage for more.

2026 Terrain: Premium Trims On The Way

GM unveiled the next-generation 2025 Terrain this past August, with the forthcoming 2026 Terrain expected to launch the next-gen AT4 and Denali trims, as was originally announced. Per usual, the AT4 will offer a more rugged spec for the crossover, while the Denali will once again slot in as the more luxurious trim of the lineup.

Special Edition Sierra 1500

As the fourth-generation Sierra 1500 pickup approaches the end of its current production cycle, GMC is expected to release a new special edition model. The new model will aim to maintain consumer interest and keep sales strong while paving the way for the next generation full-size truck. Specific details about the special edition have yet to be revealed, but fans can anticipate unique design elements and possibly additional standard features as well. Per a GM Authority exclusive, you can expect to see the next-gen Sierra 1500 for the 2027 model year, launching shortly after the all-new 2027 Chevy Silverado 1500.

  1. More complication when less was supposed to be Mary’s new mantra. And the Terrain should never have been released without all of the trims (and reasonable options packaging) ready to go at intro. Same with the Equinox.

  2. You can have multiple “trim” levels but as long as black is the only interior color option, I’m not motivated to buy a new vehicle.

    1. Good point! The two levels of level Yukon AT4 each offer only one interior color, but the less expensive Z71 Tahoe offers 2 color choices… Why?

      1. You might want to go back and research that more.

The standard AT4 Yukon for 2025 comes with a Dark Pine with the brown stitching. Meanwhile; the Yukon Ultimate AT4 has Black with Red/white stitching.

        1. Thats what I was trying to say, ONE color choice for EACH trim level.
The Z71 Tahoe offers the choice of either “Jet Black” or “Gideon/Very Dark Atmosphere” interior.
I research PLENTY before I comment on here…

  3. Nothing, really nothing

  4. Anyone who considers a Terrain a serious off-road vehicle is deluded.
You want to drive around in the boonies and hills buy a Wrangler.
    And I own a 24 Terrain so ….

    1. Who is calling the Terrain AT4 a serious off-road vehicle? But for those dealing with snow, gravel roads, or some rougher tracks to the cabin appreciate the taller side-wall , more aggressive tread and the upgraded AWD system but keeps them in a far more enjoyable drive than a Wrangler and a smaller cheaper package than a Bronco. Considering all their competitors are offering, and selling, similar packages, it would be silly for GMC to not offer something in that segment.

  5. Same puny engine in all trims of Terrain.

  6. 2025 GMC Sierra EV why? No one really needs a EV truck when going to the mountains for fun, this would limit the fun one can have seriously stick with gas we can take extra premium gas along with us but cannot take a charging station. I currently have a GMC AT4 witch I really love, the performance and the value.

    1. GMC EV platform goes 400+ miles on a charge, how much off roading do you plan on doing?

Technically you could take solar panels with you and recharge off grid, albeit very slowly. But you would never have to worry about running out of fuel if the suns out and you have lots of time to recharge.

  7. still no smaller offering despite years of back and forth reporting on the Granite.

  8. What about the Canyon and Acadia? Why no mention of those two models?
