The new year is upon us, and GM is gearing up with several significant updates. With that in mind, we’re shining the spotlight on all four of its U.S. brands – Chevrolet, GMC, Cadillac, and Buick. However, while three of these brands have several headline-grabbing updates in store (check out our previous coverage linked above for more information), Buick‘s roadmap for 2025 is relatively subdued, reflecting more extensive changes realized throughout the 2024 calendar year.
Over the past 18 months, Buick refreshed its entire North American lineup. The 2024 model year saw the introduction of the all-new Envista and significant updates to the Encore GX and Envision. Meanwhile, the all-new Enclave debuted for the 2025 model year.
These efforts build on the groundwork laid by the striking Wildcat EV concept that the Tri-Shield brand unveiled in 2022, which presented an all-new design language. Key design elements include the trapezoidal lower air intake, slim high-brow lighting, and even a new Tri-Shield logo.
As Buick already offers a totally refreshed lineup, the 2025 calendar year will likely bring minimal changes. However, there is one notable exception, namely a possible U.S. debut for the Electra E5. For those readers who may be unaware, the Electra E5 is an all-electric crossover built on GM’s BEV3 platform, the same underpinnings as those under the skin of the Chevy Blazer EV. The Electra E5 originally launched in China in 2023, but due to hefty import tariffs imposed on Chinese-made EVs, any plans to offer the Electra E5 stateside have been delayed, if not outright derailed.
As such, the Tri-Shield is left without any all-electric offering for its U.S. lineup, despite GM’s previously stated commitment to make Buick an all-electric brand by 2030. It remains to be seen how GM will continue to pursue its electrification goals as they pertain to the Tri-Shield brand in North America.

Oh boy, more crossovers. More vehicles for old women.
which vehicles? im old and interested. Thank you.
Have we got just the SUV for you Terri!
The Buick Encore GX. Perfect for an old geezer like you. Equipped with all the essentials like blind spot monitoring for when you just gotta get over that last second because that new fangled Garmin you use over CarPlay is so outdated the new exit on the highway wasn’t included.
Also equipped with a cute little three cylinder that can barely get out of its own way, that will keep your kids up at night worried sick about you, making sure they call you… showing they still care when you are expected home.
Also has AWD as an option, but we know the frugality of old timers means you’ll pass on that and have an even slower three cylinder without AWD, so in those winter storms, you’ll make your way over into the left lane and camp out to avoid all those pesky cars trying to get onto the highway in the storms, and won’t have to worry about using all those 135 horses to pass people, and instead people will just past you. You always wonder why you get dirty looks… those younger generations just have no respect.
The GX sounds perfect, but if you’ve got a few extra bucks, the Envista gives you a little more room for your sewing machine and craft supplies when you go and visit Ethel and Mildred. It’s basically the same thing as the GX, that you’ll wonder why there’s two models to chose from.
>>> My Desire is GM stops doing those cars, and design elegant ones, miss the Wows of Industry
What to expect from Buick? More of the same which is nothing of any consequence. A real shame what has happened to a once great GM division.
I think Buick has created a very handsome, modern design language. The Buicks of the past, for the most part, are gorgeous creations; however, they are the past.
If I were Buick, I would focus on advancing the power offerings and adding thoughtful technological enhancements to their newly refreshed lineup. They need to shore up their NA standing; it was a strategic failure starving their home base of excitement while surfing on the China wave. A strong homefront brings cache to a global brand.
They should prioritize an NA-only halo car more than ever right now, one that will win their way back into the hearts of America. It should be something spearheaded by their NA team. A Reatta, a Riviera, or even better an updated Avista that can showcase new hybrid options, and attract younger and old Buick enthusiasts.
I like that they are thinking forward with design; however, they need to deliver it all in a more premium package like the good old days. I think folks were excited about the new color options. Ramp up that NA production by offering broader customization options like in the old days. This could allow Buick to step further up from Chevrolet.
Their new advertising is more premium but still does not vibe on an edgier slant that could add a more premium cache. They need to focus on design details (look at 1970s-90s Buick brochures). Turn that sexy design language into video and you have a winner. The music needs more work, but much better than the previous.
Buick needs a true performance line, to recapture some of that glory in a more modern fashion. Create unique performance hybrid technologies and incorporate them into a reshaped GS package (Green Sport). This would re-establish Buick as a technology leader and a company that caters premium to enthusiasts, not elitists. I think GM took this from Buick and gave it to Cadillac.
I agree Timell. Well considered and appreciated.
Yes, I think Buick needs more “pizzazz” in their lineup and some “performance – oriented” vehicles to better compete with imports to show that ‘Us North Americans’ still like our domestic performance offerings.
For such a redesigned lineup, the marketing for new Buicks is nonexistent. Frankly, it gives me the impression that GM has all but given up on selling Buicks in the US. Finding any information about Buicks takes a real determined effort. I don’t get it.
They desperately need a car. They will not survive long just selling rebadged Envisata’s, Envision’s, Enclave’s and Encore GX all of which are woefully under powered. Bring back the updated Chinese Lacross and make it here. Give it the dual turbo that Cadillac uses in the CT5-V. Then they will attract more buyers I went away from Buick to Lincoln, would like to get back to Buick but nothing excites me. GM has given up on individual division autonomy which is poor marketing decision.
