When it comes to building a custom classic, the temptation to go overboard with parts and extra details can be strong. However, there’s also something to be said about a build that keeps it clean and uncluttered, with an eye for simplicity used as the guiding principle. This particular 1964 Chevy Chevelle looks to follow the latter route, and the result is nothing short of stunning.
As featured in a recent 24-minute video from AutotopiaLA, this particular 1964 Chevy Chevelle restomod was built by the folks at RJ Fabrication in Hesperia, California, a shop that also boasts a number of impressive off-roaders in its resume.
Nicknamed the “Stormtrooper,” the Chevelle project included a good amount of bodywork, with the shop addressing the typical rust issues and replacing the quarter panels. Custom inner frame rails were added to reinforce the chassis, providing structural rigidity without the need for a roll cage, thus maintaing a clean appearance.
The rear suspension features Detroit Speed swivel links, offering compatibility with off-the-shelf components for future modifications. The rear is enhanced further with a narrowed 12-bolt axle.
Under the hood, the Stormtrooper Chevelle features the LS3 V8 engine, which delivers approximately 392 horsepower to the rear wheels. Designed with drivability and serviceability in mind, the engine bay incorporates Eddie Motorsports hood hinges, a smoothed firewall, and twin air filters for a clean and efficient setup. The builder left some extra room for possible future upgrades, such as a supercharger if more power was desired by the owner.
Inside, Rudy’s Custom Upholstery put together a bespoke tan upholstery, creating an interesting contrast to the stark black-and-white exterior, while a handmade center console integrates modern Speedhut gauges and air conditioning for more modern appeal.
It’s a slick setup, and definitely worthy of a closer look, so hit play on the video below to check it out for yourself:
