Front view camera modules that become inoperable after being exposed to cold temperatures for several hours or days are the subject of a new GM Service Bulletin, which applies to certain units of the 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 and the 2023 GMC Canyon pickups.
The issue, if present, requires replacement of the front camera module in the affected trucks to remedy, according to Service Bulletin number N242453430.
GM dealerships are instructed to apply the available fix to customer vehicles brought to the dealer for any reason. Before starting inspection and work, the involvement of the 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 or GMC Canyon truck should be verified using the Investigate Vehicle History screen in the warranty management system.
If the GMC Sierra or GMC Canyon is indeed involved, the remedy should be applied through replacement of the entire front camera module with a new unit, ensuring the camera won’t stop working in the cold from that point on. The fix takes almost two hours to complete for the Sierra and around 45 minutes for the Canyon.
The fix is available to customers free of charge while the New Vehicle Limited Warranty period is still in effect. Furthermore, dealer service personnel should check dealer inventory for affected pickups and carry out the remedy as necessary. A sales hold applies to all affected GMC Sierra and Canyon trucks in inventory, which cannot be sold, traded, delivered, auctioned or demonstrated by the dealership until the fix is correctly applied.
As a reminder, the base engine motivating the 2024 Sierra 1500 and the sole engine choice for the 2023 Canyon are the same, the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline TurboMax engine rated at 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque. The Sierra also has three additional available powerplants, including the naturally aspirated 5.3L V8 L84 gasoline engine, the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine and the 3.0L I6 LZ0 turbodiesel Duramax engine.
The Sierra 1500 is underpinned by the light-duty variant of the GM T1 platform and is produced at the GM Fort Wayne plant in Indiana and GM Silao plant in Mexico. The Canyon rides on an updated version of the same GMT 31XX platform and is produced at the GM Wentzville plant in Missouri.
