Some Chevy Silverado 1500, Colorado Units Will Need A Front Camera Module Replacement

In a service bulletin that is all the more topical because of the start of winter, GM has announced certain units of the 2024 Chevy Silverado 1500 and the 2023 Chevy Colorado pickup trucks have an issue in which the front view camera module needs replacement.

Specifically, the front camera module in affected units stops operating after the vehicles have sat in cold temperatures for some time, according to Service Bulletin number N242453430.

When an affected 2024 Chevy Silverado 1500 or Chevy Colorado is brought to the dealership by an owner, service personnel should first check on its involvement. Affected trucks are marked as “Open” in the GM Global Warranty Management system. If this is the case, the available fix should be applied.

The fix offered for affected Chevy Silverado and Chevy Colorado pickup trucks is replacement of the front view camera module. This process takes about 45 minutes for the two pickup models. It is carried out free of charge if the affected vehicle is still within its New Vehicle Limited Warranty period.

The remedy should also be applied to all affected units of the Chevy Silverado and Colorado in dealership inventory, too. A hold on the affected pickups set by GM means they cannot be sold, delivered, traded, auctioned or demonstrated by the dealer until the fix has been applied. Since parts are limited, the dealership should not order the front view camera module as shelf stock, but only in the event of an affected unit being discovered.

As a reminder, the 2024 Silverado is motivated by four powerplant choices, including  the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline Turbomax, the naturally aspirated 5.3L V8 L84 gasoline engine, the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine and the 3.0L I6 LZ0 turbodiesel Duramax engine. Meanwhile, the 2023 Colorado cradles the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L2R gasoline engine and the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B engine in Turbo Plus and Turbo High Output configurations.

The 2024 Chevy Silverado is underpinned by the GM T1 platform, and is produced at the GM Fort Wayne plant in Indiana, the GM Oshawa plant in Canada and the GM Silao plant in Mexico. The Colorado, meanwhile, is built at the GM Wentzville plant in Missouri.
