Some Chevy Colorado, Traverse Units May Have Wireless Phone Charger Issues

GM has issued a preliminary information bulletin about an issue with the wireless phone charger in certain vehicles, including some units of the 2023 to 2024 Chevy Colorado and all-new third-generation 2024 Chevy Traverse, for which it is developing a fix.

The General is aware of the phone charger issue with the Chevy Colorado pickup and Chevy Traverse crossover and is currently researching the problem.

Affected Chevy Colorado and Traverse units may experience a condition in which the wireless phone charger begins charging a phone, then stops charging for unknown reasons. The service bulletin, number PIT6098B, says that some vehicle owners are commenting on the charging issue.

If a customer brings a Chevy Colorado or Traverse unit to the dealership and asks about the wireless phone charger, the dealership is instructed by GM to tell the vehicle owner “that we apologize for this inconvenience and that General Motors is working on a solution for this concern.”

Under no circumstances should dealer service personnel replace any parts, since the cause of the problem is not yet known. However, they can carry out an inspection to verify that the charger issue is indeed occurring with the specific vehicle that has been brought to the dealership. This process requires about 12 minutes to complete.

GM engineering is working to discover the exact cause for the wireless phone charger to switch off in affected Chevy Colorado, Traverse, and other vehicle models affected by the problem. Once the root cause has been discovered, the engineering team will develop a remedy and the service bulletin will be updated with the new information.

All Colorado and Traverse units are affected regardless of the engine or transmission equipped in the vehicle. The problem currently only applies to vehicles in the North America region. Several Cadillac and GMC nameplates are also included in the service bulletin.

  • I wonder why Jim is just figuring this out I have a 2023 GMC Denali and the phone charger is never worked. It’s been to the dealership several times and they said they don’t know.
Spoke to a GM engineer and he told me they know about this, but I have no solution. This is not new technology. They have phone chargers and all their other vehicles. I don’t have a clue why they can’t fix it and why I paid for it. I can’t use it.

  • I have a 2023 Traverse with a laundry list of problems including phone charging. GM has been awful to deal with, service is in the dark.

    • My 2021 same thing. Wonder if they ever find a fix if it will be covered under warranty or will they want to get in my wallet.

  • Keep farming out parts to the lowest bidders this kind of crap happens. Vehicles are way too complicated today. Government is too involved in the industry making the problems worse, being to expensive, over weight and to many nanny devices being mandated.

  • I have a 2024 GMC Canyon AT4. The wireless charger doesn’t work and says metal objects were detected and to remove them. Dealer has been no help at all and only states that they are instructed not to troubleshoot unless GM comes forward with a solve. Pretty absurd considering they make you buy a package that includes the wireless charger, know about the problem and continue to ship-as is on all the vehicles. When does this turn into a class action lawsuit for the hundreds of thousands of us that were deceptively sold a non-working feature?
