Some 2024 Chevy Silverado EV Units Need A Serial Data Gateway Module Replacement

GM has issued a Service Update related to a fix for an issue with the battery energy control module in certain affected units of the 2024 Chevy Silverado EV.

Tagged with service update number N242470190, some 2024 Chevy Silverado EV units may have been built with a Serial Data Gateway Module (SDGM) that’s incompatible with the vehicle’s software. The correction outlined in the service update involves EV-certified GM dealers replacing the SDGM (part number 13552977) in affected units.

The number of units affected is unclear at this point. The program is in effect until December 31st, 2026. Notably, some 2024 Chevy Corvette and 2024 GMC Hummer EV units – both Pickup and SUV models – are involved in the service bulletin.

2024 was the first model year for the Chevy Silverado EV. The base WT and top RST First Edition trims were the only ones available for the electric truck’s debut model year.

The 2024 Silverado EV RST First Edition boasts goodies like the Multi-Flex Tailgate and the Midgate, a panoramic fixed glass roof, an 11-inch digital Driver Information Center, a 17.7-inch touchscreen, four-wheel steering, and the GM Super Cruise drive assist system as standard equipment. Meanwhile, the WT models were more fleet-oriented work trucks.

In regard to performance, the RST First Edition utilizes GM Ultium batteries and GM Ultium Drive motor technologies to produce up to 754 horsepower and 785 pound-feet of torque when in the Wide Open Watts or “WOW” mode. An all-wheel drivetrain helps the RST First Edition sprint to 60 mph in roughly 4.5 seconds, and the 510-horsepower 4WT model we tested sprinted from 0-60 mph in just over 6 seconds.

Under the body panels, the Chevy Silverado EV rides on the narrow-body variant of the GM BT1 platform, which it shares with the GMC Sierra EV. Of course, the wide-body version of the BT1 architecture underpins the Hummer EV Pickup and Hummer EV SUV. Production takes place at the GM Factory Zero plant in Michigan.
