A dramatic viral video has emerged showing a K5 Chevy Blazer ramming a police SUV and pushing it through an intersection. The incident occurred in Brea, California, on Thanksgiving day, around 4:40 p.m. local time. The driver was subsequently shot and killed by police.
Footage of the incident was recorded by a nearby motorist, revealing a modified K5 Chevy Blazer aggressively shoving a police SUV backward through an intersection. The Blazer is seen with a significant ride height increase and flat black body panels. The video captures the moment that the modified SUV drives on top of the hood of a police SUV. Multiple aftermarket light bars on the Blazer are activated, adding blinding light to the chaotic scene. At one point, the police SUV slows, causing the Blazer to spin its rear tires spin wildly as the driver pins the throttle. Meanwhile, several other police vehicles are seen surrounding the intersection in an attempt to control the situation.
Local authorities reported that the driver of the Blazer was suspected of driving under the influence. Police located the Chevy Blazer near the 57 freeway and approached the driver, but after making contact, the driver then reportedly proceeded to ram a police cruiser. In response, “an officer-involved shooting occurred,” per the Brea Police Department. The driver was shot and later transported to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Photos from the scene show what’s believed to be a bullet hole in the window, likely tied to the shooting.
Further details regarding whether or not the driver was armed have not been released. None of the officers involved in the incident were harmed. The Orange County District Attorney’s office is now conducting an investigation into the shooting.
