EVgo and GM Energy have collaborated on building more than 2,000 public fast charging stalls across the U.S. There are now EVgo chargers at 390 locations in 45 metro areas across 32 states. EVgo stations are primarily located in “amenity-rich” locations that accommodate city dwellers who might not be able to charge at home or work. The 2,000th stall is part of a new charging station with five 350kW fast chargers able to serve 10 EVs simultaneously in Murrieta, California.
This is a big milestone because the General Motors/EVgo partnership just built its 1,000th stall in August 2023. That means it doubled the number of plugs in a little over a year.
“EVgo’s longstanding collaboration with GM has helped us bring public charging to communities in more than 30 states across the U.S., and as we work to deploy our first flagship destinations next year, we are thrilled to celebrate today’s milestone of reaching 2,000 fast charging stalls built through this program,” EVgo President Dennis Kish said. “Working with trusted automakers like GM has accelerated the buildout of our nationwide network, inspiring range confidence for today’s EV drivers and the drivers we will welcome to the EVgo network in the years to come.”
“Our collaboration with EVgo underscores our dedication to providing EV drivers with the best possible experience by expanding fast charging infrastructure across the country,” GM Energy Vice President Wade Sheffer said. “We look forward to continuing to offer premium charging experiences for years to come.”
This news comes a few months after GM EVs finally got access to the Tesla Supercharger network, dramatically increasing the number of public chargers available to GM EV drivers. GM is selling an official adapter that works with Tesla’s North American Charging Standard (NACS) plugs, and General Motors says its EVs will have native NACS integration starting in 2026.
Other GM partnerships related to EV charging include membership in Ionna, a joint venture that aims to install more than 30,000 chargers throughout North America, and Pilot Travel Centers, which will build 2,000 DC fast chargers at up to 500 Pilot and Flying J travel centers. According to General Motors, the automaker’s EVs have access to more than 231,800 chargers across the U.S. and Canada

I have been very pleased with charging my Lyriq at Flying J EVgo locations. The charging starts right up upon plug in. It is great that the chargers are pull through
and covered. I also really like Tesla Superchargers using my GM plug adapter— very easy to do. The Tesla chargers seem faster. One place I stop has 60 Superchargers. Long distance road trips are easy with a little planning —- there are more than enough charging stations, it’s just a matter of where you wish to stop.
