The mainstream midsize EV crossover segment expanded to 55,186 deliveries during Q3 2024, up 26 percent year-over-year.
The Chevy Blazer EV competes in the mainstream midsize EV crossover SUV segment, in which we currently include mainstream (non-luxury) BEVs that fit into the Midsize (D) segments. Beyond the mainstream EV segment being discussed here, the remaining EV segment is the premium EV space that contains models from Tesla, Audi, Porsche, Cadillac, Acura, Jaguar, VinFast, and Genesis. Consequently, we don’t include Tesla models in the mainstream EV crossover segment sales analysis since they are considered premium/luxury models.
It’s also worth noting that some mainstream models also include variants with an internal combustion engine (ICE) and/or hybrid (HEV) and/or plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version. That includes the Hyundai Santa Fe, Kia Sorento, and Mazda CX-70. Consequently, these models do not compare directly to the Chevy Blazer EV. As a result, these particular models are not included in our analysis. Additionally, while the Ioniq 5 is a crossover, the similarly named Ioniq 6 is an all-electric sedan and is not included in this analysis.
The GM Authority Take
The Chevy Blazer EV enters its second year on sale within the mainstream midsize electric (EV) crossover space. With 8K deliveries, Chevy’s entry did place ahead of two competitors, moving up a spot from the previous quarter.
The new model here is the 2024 Honda Prologue, which is ironically built by GM at GM’s factory, is underpinned by a GM platform and tech, including GM Ultium Drive motors and a GM Ultium battery pack, and competes directly against the Blazer EV.
While Honda’s first all-electric utility is already outpacing the Blazer EV, Chevy also sells the compact Equinox EV crossover, which may be taking sales from the Blazer EV. Honda, conversely, only offers one all-electric model as of this writing. During Q3 2024, the Equinox EV, in just its second quarter on sale, moved 9,772 units – more than the Blazer EV. Combining sales of both Chevy EV crossovers nets the Bow Tie brand 17,770 deliveries, which puts GM well ahead of any competitor here, including Hyundai-Kia.
We expect Blazer EV sales to continue to grow so long as production and supply volumes allow. Additionally, the much-anticipated high-performance SS variant of the Blazer EV launches during the first quarter of the 2025 calendar year, with its arrival likely charging sales here while also providing a solid rival to the Kia EV6 GT. This should increase volume further still.
About Chevrolet Blazer EV
In July 2022, the 2024 Chevy Blazer EV made its official debut, ushering in the Bow Tie brand’s mass-market midsize battery-electric crossover. Headlined by a maximum GM-estimated range of 320 miles from a full charge, the Chevy Blazer EV will be available in front-, rear- and all-wheel drive configurations, while the trim level lineup will include 1LT, 2LT, RS, and Blazer EV SS, along with a Police Pursuit Vehicle (PPV) model for law enforcement, making it the quickest police package ever offered by Chevy.
The first two trim levels on sale are the Chevy Blazer EV 2LT AWD and RS AWD, but the upcoming RS RWD will include a higher capacity battery pack than these trim levels.
The GM Super Cruise advanced semi-autonomous driver assist system is also available on the new Blazer EV.
The midsize crossover rides on a variant of the GM BEV3 platform, motivated by the GM Ultium battery and GM Ultium Drive motor technologies. As for output, the Blazer EV LT AWD and RS AWD two-motor setup delivers 288 horsepower and 333 pound-feet of torque, while the Blazer EV RS RWD’s single rear-mounted motor develops 340 horsepower and 325 pound-feet.
The 2025 Chevy Blazer EV arrives offering new Midnight and Sport Edition packages while gaining new painted roof options, but drops a certain paint color. Here are all the paint colors, the interior colorways, and available wheels.
For 2025, the 2LT equipment group becomes 4LT and gets cloth seats. The 4LT will be called just LT for consumers.
The 2025 Blazer EV SS gets more power as the Bow Tie brand’s first Super Sport model in a long while. The Chevy Blazer EV SS will offer a standard performance-tuned dual-motor configuration, with Wide Open Watts (WOW) mode enabling a zero-to-60 mph time in under four seconds. Additional performance-focused features include a specific sport-tuned chassis and Brembo front brakes, with the option of a new Performance Package.

Comments
Well, this maybe the best gm can get in regards to Blazer EV sales. Given its troubled introduction and consumer ambivalence towards EVs.
ALL EV sales are on the upswing and will continue to be until Trump is sworn in and then they’ll fall off the cliff. So it means absolutely nothing.
You really think people buying EVs care what Trump thinks?
The Blazer competes with Lyriq on the high end. As long as Ultium sales keep growing GM doesn’t care which model you buy.
The Chevrolet Malibu sold almost 100,000 vehicles in the same time period and got canceled. When will GM wake up and smell the coffee.
High Volume does not equate high profit. If that was the case, luxury cars or expensive trim levels wouldn’t exist.
looks like GM just needs to sell its cars under the honda banner
This demonstrates the value of brands and perception is reality – the nearly identical Honda is just getting started and is already easily outselling the Blazer. Your average customer has no clue that the Honda is made by GM in Mexico – my anti US brands neighbor is interested in the Honda, I won’t tell him until after he buys one.
I think most people buying Hondas just want basic transportation from point A to B. There is NOTHING above average about them. Even their reputation for reliability is based on about the 1990s vehicles. They are usually below industry average for initial quality and have been for YEARS.
GM and their smart sharing of tech with Honda only to be out sold by them…lmao
Like no one saw that coming.
That could be a two edge sword though. If Ultium has had alot of issues and that plaguing affected the Prologues and ZDXs then that could leave a sour taste in a Honda customers mouth. I’ve never owned Hondas before (I do have a Toyota) but I know my best friends wife had an Accord in college with transmission issues. And she never wanted another Honda ever again after that. I also wasn’t originally planning on that Toyota and was going for a Honda CR-V. But because the 2015 CR-V, the year they switched to CVT, had been suffering from a vibration issue (later addressed in 2017) I shied away and went for a Rav4 instead. And I won’t get into the disastrous ZF 9HP transmission that plagued several of their models including the 3rd-gen Acura MDX.
So Honda really put themselves at risk here. Not that GM is bad, I have nothing but good things to say about my XT5. But given Honda built its reputation on reliability its one thing they can’t afford to jeopardize. There’s a reason, during development of the J29/DB Supra (or the A90 for you JDM enthusiasts), Toyota scrutinized every little nut and bolt in the B58 BMW engine to the point that BMW was taken aback by it causing a rift between the engineers of each company. (Was an interesting article I read about the development of this car)
Like Warren Bufett said, “It takes 20 years to build a reputation but only 5 minutes to ruin it.”
So GM has 37% market with 29.3k built YTD 2024 = blazer + prologue
I was thinking along similar lines: Honda Prologue sales help GM amortize their EV tooling over many more models than just the Blazer and Lyriq. Good for lower prices and / or more rapid enhancements.
As a current Honda & Chevrolet owner; if I was in the market for an EV SUV, to replace my 2008 Honda Pilot, I would buy the Prologue, for two reasons; 1) Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and 2) the local Honda dealer has far better service than the surrounding Chevrolet dealers!
Am I missing something here…isn’t a Model Y in this mainstream midsize EV category? It’s about as mainstream EV as it gets. Or is it considered full-size?
