Competitive Sales Comparison (USA)
Chevy Blazer sales in Q3 2024 put the Bow Tie brand’s midsize crossover in fifth place among ten entries in the midsize mainstream crossover segment. For this quarter, we’ve pared down the Blazer’s sales report to its native market, culling it from the midsize and full-size mainstream crossover segment that in which we included it previously. Precipitating that change is the fact that the next-generation GMC Acadia has grown from being a midsizer to a full-size model like the all-new Chevy Traverse, leaving GM with just one model – the Blazer – in the midsize crossover space.
The Subaru Outback was in the lead this quarter as sales rose eight percent to 44,630 deliveries. That puts it far ahead of second-place Hyundai Santa Fe, which saw sales fall 23 percent to 27,059 units. In third, the Santa Fe’s corporate cousin – the Kia Sorento – posted a nine percent drop to 22,513 units. The Mitsubishi Outlander followed in fourth as sales grew 19 percent to 11,138 units. Rounding out the top five, the Blazer (see running Chevy Blazer sales) posted a 29 percent drop to 11,057 deliveries. The discontinued Ford Edge (see running Ford Edge sales), which saw its last example built this past April, took sixth place as sales fell 60 percent to 9,733 units. The Toyota Venza followed in seventh with a 38 percent jump to 8,263 units, while Honda Passport sales fell 22 percent to 7,422, and the Nissan Murano posted a four percent uptick to 5,298. The Mazda CX-70 rounded out the list of ten entries with 3,829 deliveries.

The GM Authority Take
As a result of the 29 percent drop, Chevy Blazer sales placed fifth among ten entries in the midsize mainstream crossover space during Q3 2024. We posit that demand for the Blazer is cooling due to newer and perhaps more attractive offering available from rivals. Supply seems to be steady, meaning it’s unlikely that the drop is supply-related.
Looking beyond just the Blazer, Chevy offers a full stable of utilities totaling seven nameplates. That breaks out into five unibody crossovers and two body-on-frame models:
Chevy Unibody Crossovers:
Chevy Body-On-Frame SUVs
Additionally, Buick and GMC – which compete in roughly the same space as Chevy – offers four utilities each.
As we opined last month, GM would be well served to remake the Chevy Blazer as a rugged crossover along the lines of the all-new 2026 Honda Passport.
But this may be a moot point as Chevy’s all-electric models, the Chevy Blazer EV and Chevy Equinox EV, are beginning to see healthy volumes and are likely to eventually replace their ICE-based counterparts entirely. Specifically, the Blazer EV moved 8K units in Q3 2024 compared to the ICE-powered Blazer’s 11K, and the Equinox EV posted about 10K sales to already place first in its segment.

Comment
Bought a 2024 Blazer RS AWD with the 3.6 V6 because I thought GM would stop making the 3.6 and I don’t want a turbo 4 cylinder. Have had vehicle for about 10 months love everything about it but the noisy drivetrain which didn’t show up for about 3 months and gets worse as car warms up and as always dealer claims that’s normal .
