Buick placed 11th out of 22 brands included in the Consumer Reports 2024 reliability report, with vehicle owners giving it an overall score of 48 out of 100, close on the heels of higher-ranking brands from Asia such as Hyundai and Kia.
As CR reports, Buick outperformed the average for U.S. domestic automotive brands, which is 38. It was on a level with European marques – also averaging 48 – but lagged Asian auto companies with their average score of 57.
The report offers reliability ratings for only two of Buick’s four current models. The Buick Envision scored 51 points, a remarkably high number for an American domestic nameplate, while the Buick Encore GX got a rating of 44 from owners.
Notably, Buick’s ranking is considerably higher than that of any other GM brand for 2024. Chevrolet was rated at 37, while GMC was at a below-average 33 points and Cadillac was the second to lowest ranking at 27 points, with only Rivian’s reliability score of 14 being lower. Last year, Buick was rated at 55 points.
Reliability patterns seen last year continued into 2024. In addition to the regional differences in reliability between the U.S., Asia, and Europe vehicle type also played a significant role. Per auto testing director Jake Fisher, “sedans remain a practical choice.” He noted that “they often have few of the latest features, which can cause problems when they are launched.”
Minivans were next after sedans for reliability, with SUVs in third place and pickup trucks as the least reliable vehicle type. Hybrids have much the same reliability as ICE vehicles. EVs continue to fall short of the ICE benchmark with 42 percent more problems, and PHEVs have 70 percent more issues. However, both are improving and narrowing the gap quickly.
The study looked at over 300,000 individual vehicles, gathering owner feedback on problems in 20 key areas. The poorest performing individual vehicles were General Motors all-electric models, reported to “suffer from problems with the EV battery, electrical accessories, the climate system, in-car electronics, and other components.”

Different sources seem to be putting a different spin on things.....
GM Authority: Buick ranks "Mid-Pack"
Consumer Reports: Buick was the highest-ranking domestic brand
Maybe that could be incorporated into a new tag line.
"Buick. We're mid."
"Buick. Uniquely Average, by Design."
Funny guys! So then what are Chevrolet, Cadillac, and GMCs slogans? We're each below average?
Of course Consumer Reports would rate the GM brand that most imports vehicles from Korea and China as the "best."
What a rag. My wife's Korean-imported 2014 Buick Encore was a piece of $#@! starting at 90,000 miles, while my Delta Township-built GMC Acadia is going great at 163,000 miles.
Is Nader still working there?
Buick leads all domestic brands, isn't that far from Honda's score, and is the best of GM besting Chevy and Cadillac in both quality and design. Buick sales are up and will sell approximately 200,000 w/only four models.
Trade wars and GM loosing Chinese market share puts Buick in jeopardy. High chance Envision will be impossible to import. Hopefully, GM will find factory space for next gen Envision and, since they are platform mates, XT4. GM could even stretch VFF and import from S Korea.
Buick is finally selling and earns easy profits. Marketing is even good.
