2025 Chevy Traverse Z71 Drops This Seat Material

One of the seat upholstery materials previously offered on the model has been dropped for the 2025 Chevy Traverse Z71 trim level, with only one seat material now available instead of the two fabrics offered for the 2024 model year.

Specifically, Premium Cloth seats are now unavailable for the Z71 trim of the 2025 Chevy Traverse, and the only remaining option is Evotex seats.

On the 2024 Chevy Traverse, Premium Cloth seats were standard while Evotex seats were an option that could be selected for an additional $1,000. Now the cloth seats are gone and the standard seating is Evotex. As a reminder, Evotex is a soft-touch leatherette or faux leather which is either vinyl or thermoplastic.

Evotex is durable, spill and stain resistant, easy to clean and has a low carbon footprint. GM attempted to trademark the name with a filing in January 2023. The same material is known as Inteluxe when used in Cadillac vehicles and CoreTex when in GMC use. Chevy uses the Evotex brand name despite rejection of the trademark application in September 2023 based on its similarity to “Evotech.”

Reduction of the available seat material choices from two to one for the 2025 Chevy Traverse Z71 is likely part of the GM “Winning with Simplicity” initiative. This strategy, which reduces the number of options, colors, materials, and parts used in order to cut costs, is expected to cut costs by $200 million in 2024 alone. About 2,700 parts have been eliminated from GM production as a result of the initiative. However, it also runs the risk of reducing customer demand by cutting out too many options on increasing pricey models.

Other changes introduced by the 2025 Chevy Traverse include elimination of two trim levels, the previous entry-level LS trim and the 1FL fleet-only trim. At the same time, the High Country trim is being reintroduced, though as a variant slotting in below the RS trim level rather than a range-topping version as is usual for the designation.

Pricing for the 2025 Traverse starts at a $41,995 base MSRP for the LT trim with front-wheel drive and ranges up to $58,795 for the RS with all-wheel drive, inclusive of $1,395 destination freight charge. The online  configurator is currently live to try out various available builds.

A single powerplant choice propels the model, the turbocharged 2.5L I4 LK0 gasoline engine rated at 328 horsepower and 326 pound-feet of torque.  The GM C1-2 platform provides the bones, while production takes place at the GM Lansing Delta plant in Michigan.

  1. Wonder if these will become a PPV or SSV (?) option. Heard the Tahoes are getting too expensive for cop fleets.

    1. Local police do not pay for their rides. Most of those vehicles are funded through federal grants to fight terrorism and drive the federal government into bankruptcy.

  2. Since it now comes in only one material, how is that a “choice” or an “option”?

  3. The bean counters are killing this model piece by piece. Now one interior color, black. Lots of plastic, black. Fewer options, fewer colors. One engine (Too small), turbo. High Country is now Low Country. Everything is less, less less and not what the customers want. Its not a winning initiative it’s a customer reduction initiative. Sad to see.

    1. Remember the 1970’s when vehicle interiors came in many different colors. Those were the days when no two vehicles were actually alike.

      1. It’s pretty mind blowing when you look back how many more choices we had in just about everything, especially the automotive world and color choices. I grew up in the 70’s and 80’s and miss so much of it. When August would roll around dad and I used to drive through the dealerships to try and spot the newly arrived models and I would comb the bookstands for the Auto rags- charting the changes to see what was new.
Now I dread doing the same thing because it just means one less sedan or coupe, an interior color option deleted or something missing. Sad times we live in!

  4. FFS. Zero desire for Evocrap seats. Spouse wants panoramic sunroof – none is dealbreaker. Why the F would GM think pulling the cloth was a good idea. Nationwide search for Z71 2024 with sunroof = zero. Maybe you can close 2025 orders early like you did with Camaro for the trifecta.
