2025 Cadillac CT5-V, CT5-V Blackwing Units Need A Software Update Before Being Shipped

As GM Authority reported earlier in the month, some new units of the refreshed 2025 Cadillac CT5-V and CT5-V Blackwing have faced significant delivery delays, with newly assembled units remaining parked at the production facility for months on end. Naturally, these delays have led to considerable frustration among buyers eager to get their new performance sedan in their driveway. Now, sources have revealed the the reason behind the shipment delays.

According to sources familiar with the matter, the delivery delay for new units of the refreshed 2025 Cadillac CT5-V and CT5-V Blackwing stems from a pending software update. Unlike a standard “over-the-air” (OTA) software update, which can be performed wireless, the update in question requires a direct connection to the vehicle before it can be shipped to the customer.

Sources indicate that GM is working to fix the problem, although the exact timeline in which it will be resolved remains unclear. Cadillac, however, maintains that the delay is part of its planned approach.

As reported earlier in the month, we reached out to Cadillac for more information on the shipping delay. In a statement to GM Authority, a Cadillac spokesperson provided the following:

“Cadillac still plans to begin shipping 2025MY vehicles before the end of the year which aligns with what we announced at reveal. Securely parking vehicles after production is a normal output of our planned approach.”

Nevertheless, some buyers have expressed frustration over the delay, reporting wait times of up to three months or longer, exacerbated by unclear communication between Cadillac, dealerships, and customers. As always, GM Authority will continue to monitor the situation for updates on when deliveries will resume.

As for the mechanicals, the 2025 Cadillac CT5-V is powered by the twin-turbocharged 3.0L V6 LGY gasoline engine, which is rated at 360 horsepower and 405 pound-feet of torque, pairing with the GM 10-speed automatic transmission. Meanwhile, the CT5-V Blackwing takes performance to the next level thanks to the supercharged 6.2L V8 LT4 gasoline engine, which delivers a staggering 668 horsepower and 659 pound-feet of torque. The LT4 is paired with the GM six-speed manual transmission as standard, while the GM 10-speed automatic is optional.

Both models are built on GM’s Alpha 2 platform.

  • I wonder if it's the same update my '24 5BW just got. Apparently some OTA updates will drain the battery. This dealer installed software patch prevents that.

  • Sounds like all along GM knew the car needed a software update, so they could
have said that from the beginning. Since it's not a new car, but the dash is new and
Super Cruise is standard, so it must be to fix one of those.

  • I have been waiting 5 months since my 2025 CT5 V was built. So it takes 5 months to do a software update. I really think it is for taxs. They build the cars and don't ship them and tell the government they have a tax lose, because of all the car sitting at the factory that are not sold.
