UVeye Vehicle Inspection System Named One Of Best Inventions Of 2024 By Time Magazine

Time Magazine has published its annual Best Inventions list, which includes an Automotive category with six innovative inventions. One of the more interesting ones is UVeye Vehicle Inspection Systems, which brings a much-needed modernization to car inspection.

UVeye CEO Amir Hever described the UVeye inspection system to Time Magazine: “You enter a dealership, drive through the system, and within 20 to 30 seconds, get a full condition report.”

The system describes itself as an “MRI for vehicles.” You drive through the machine like an automatic carwash, and its sensors scan the exterior and underside of the vehicle looking for underbody issues, tire damage, lease, and flaws in the body. It’s a far cry from using mirrors to inspect the undercarriage.

“We’re supremely honored that UVeye’s AI-powered vehicle inspection systems have earned a spot on Time’s prestigious Best Inventions list for 2024,” Hever told Automotive News. “Our mission is to bolster innovation in vehicular safety and smart transportation. Being named to this list is a testament to the ingenuity and drive of our amazing team and world-class partners.”

The system was originally designed for military applications. Founding brothers Amir and Ohad Hever witnessed a clunky and low-tech system for sweeping vehicles for car bombs in a secure facility in Israel. Since the company’s founding in 2016, UVeye has expanded from military to civilian applications by partnering with GM and software firm Connexion Mobility for dealerships, plus Amazon for its delivery vans.

GM first penned a deal with UVeye with an investment from GM Ventures in 2022. The General announced earlier this year that it was moving forward with a plan to put UVeye systems in 4,000 General Motors dealers nationwide.

Time chose its list of 200 top inventions of 2024 by soliciting nominations from the magazine’s editors and correspondents worldwide, and through an online application process. The factors Time used to make its final list were originality, efficacy, ambition, and impact.

The other inventions on in this year’s Automotive category include the Volkswagen ID.Buzz, Volvo’s Driver Understanding System, the Hero MotoCorp Surge S32, which can convert from a 3-wheeled vehicle to a motorcycle, the Pebble Flow RV, and the Cavnue Connected and Automated Vehicle Corridor.
