Some Chevy Colorado, GMC Canyon Units Will Need A Certification Label Replacement

Some units of the 2024 Chevy Colorado and the 2024 GMC Canyon need a new certification label applied to replace an incorrect label they were shipped from the factory with, according to a new GM service update.

Since no specific characteristics indicate the affected Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon pickup truck units, dealers should check the Investigate Vehicle History page in the GM Global Warranty Management System to verify if a new label is needed for that specific VIN.

Dealers should apply the fix to all Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon trucks brought to the dealership for any reason. The exact number of vehicles involved in Service Update N242475750 is unclear at this point. However, it is likely that most affected units are either still in transit to a dealership or still contained in dealer inventory.

The dealer must order a new Certification Label for the Chevy Colorado or GMC Canyon truck with the VIN printed on it, since each label is VIN-specific. The old label should be removed and any glue residue cleaned off using isopropyl alcohol. The new label should not be applied over the existing label, as it might then peel off at a later date.

The Certification/Tire Label contains a variety of information that is important to cargo hauling and towing with the pickup trucks. Some of the information typically included on the label is:

  • OEM tire sizes and tire inflation pressures for the vehicle
  • Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR), including the weight of the truck, passengers, cargo and fuel
  • Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR), the maximum weight for the vehicle’s front axle and rear axle

As a reminder, the 2024 Colorado is motivated by two powerplants, the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L2R gasoline engine developing 237 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque, and the 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline TurboMax engine rated at 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque. The 2024 Canyon is equipped with the L3B engine only.

Both trucks ride on an updated variant of the GMT 31XX platform, while production of both models takes place at the GM Wentzville plant in Missouri.
