Some 2024 Chevy Silverado HD, GMC Sierra HD Units Will Need A Remote Start Fix

Certain units of the 2024 Chevy Silverado HD and 2024 GMC Sierra HD pickups are included in a new GM Service Update containing a fix available for a remote start problem that improperly illuminates the check engine light.

In the affected units, the check engine light illuminates after remote starting the vehicle without using the “lock” button, per Service Update N242478480. The issue only applies to the 2024 model year, but it includes the 2500 HD and 3500 HD variants of both trucks.

No components need to be replaced in order to repair the remote start problem. To solve the issue, the service personnel are to update the Engine and Transmission Control Module with new programming. The whole reprogramming process should take a little under an hour, on average.

The exact number of affected units is currently unclear. GM instructs dealership service to apply the available fix to any vehicles still in stock and to affected Chevy Silverado HD and GMC Sierra HD trucks brought in by their owners for other services. The repair is offered free of charge to current owners of the vehicles.

The 2024 Chevy Silverado HD and 2024 GMC Sierra HD were refreshed for the 2024 model year. Both models’ refresh features a new front-end design, a new cockpit (in some models), and powertrain updates. It ushered in the off-road-ready ZR2 and AT4X trims for the Silverado HD and Sierra HD, respectively, and the GMC also saw the addition of the luxurious Denali Ultimate trim.

The powertrain updates involved a more potent 6.6L V8 L5P turbo-diesel Duramax engine, plus the inclusion of a 10-speed transmission with the 6.6L V8 L8T gasoline engine, replacing the six-speed used in prior model years.

  2. You say this update is free to owners. That is totally wrong. I have over 36,000 miles on my truck and dealer says it will cost me $108.00. That is not free. Either change article to be more exact or give me info this isa free.
