Some 2024 Cadillac Escalade Units Need A Steering Gear Fix

GM has issued a Service Update that applies to certain units of the 2024 Cadillac Escalade luxury SUV, along with several other models, which is related to loose steering gear motor bolts and fasteners.

The Service Update, number N242478260, applies both to vehicles brought to the dealership by customers and to 2024 Cadillac Escalade units currently in dealer inventory, with involved SUVs being marked “Open” on their Investigate Vehicle History page.

The issue involves steering gear motor bolts being loose on the steering gear assembly of affected Cadillac Escalade vehicles. An inspection, which requires about 20 minutes, should be carried out first. If necessary based on the inspection results, dealership service personnel should replace the electric belt drive rack and pinion steering gear.

Replacement of the steering gear is then followed by reprogramming of the power steering control module with the latest available software. While the exact number of vehicles involved is unclear, only a small number of affected units is expected. Dealers shouldn’t order the components as shelf stock because the problem is infrequent and only low quantities of available steering gear parts are currently available.

The fix is available free of charge to Cadillac Escalade owners through the end of the New Vehicle Limited Warranty period for the specific sport-utility unit. The repair requires from 1.6 to 1.9 hours to complete on average depending on the engine the particular Escalade cradles under the hood.

As a reminder, the standard version of the 2024 Cadillac Escalade offers two engine options, including the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine offering 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque and the 3.0L I6 LM2 diesel Duramax engine producing 277 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. The Escalade-V can be motivated by the supercharged 6.2L V8 LT4 gasoline engine developing 682 horsepower and 653 pound-feet of torque

The 2024 Escalade rides on the GM T1 platform, which also underpins the 2025 model year. Production of the model takes place exclusively at the GM Arlington plant in Texas.
