Some 2023 GMC Terrain Units Need A Fuel Pump Replacement

Certain units of the 2023 GMC Terrain crossover are included in a new General Motors service bulletin related to a potentially inoperative factory high-pressure fuel pump, which may need replacement of the pump and associated pipe.

The issue and its available fix are described in GM Service Bulletin N242450160. Dealer service technicians should check the GM Global Warranty Management system to confirm involvement of a specific GMC Terrain unit before beginning repairs, with the Investigate Vehicle History page marked “open” for affected units.

No exact number of affected 2023 GMC Terrain vehicles is known. A hold has been placed on any affected Terrain units in dealer stock or inventory, forbidding the sale, trade, auctioning, delivery, or demonstration of the crossovers until repaired. Customer vehicles brought to the dealership should be promptly fixed as well.

In order to fix the high-pressure fuel pump inoperability issue, the high-pressure fuel pump itself and the high-pressure fuel pump feed pipe connecting to it should both be replaced with new components. Since these parts are in limited supply, they shouldn’t be ordered as shelf stock, but only when an affected GMC Terrain is encountered.

The fix takes 1.5 hours to complete and is free of charge to Terrain owners, provided that their vehicle is still within its Emission Limited Warranty period.

As a reminder, the 2023 Terrain ushered in several changes and updates to the model, including the advent of the new turbocharged 1.5L I4 LSD gasoline engine developing 175 horsepower and 203 pound-feet of torque. This single powerplant choice is linked to the GM nine-speed automatic transmission.

The standard drivetrain for the 2023 model year is FWD, while AWD is optional on the SLE and SLT trim levels and standard on the AT4 and range-topping Denali trims. The model also got a new e-boost braking system along with higher prices.

As for structure, the GMC Terrain is currently underpinned by the GM D2 platform. Production takes place at the GM San Luis Potosí plant in Mexico.
