Redesigned 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan Debuts As Chevy Equinox, GMC Terrain Rival

A fully redesigned 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan has been unveiled as the newest rival to the Chevy Equinox and GMC Terrain in the competitive compact crossover segment. Based on VW’s MQB evo platform, the new Tiguan has a slightly longer wheelbase, more power, and an expected improvement in fuel economy.

One of the biggest stories with the all-new 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan is that it’s no longer available with a third row of seats. Every 2025 Tiguan will be a two-row five-seater. The Volkswagen Tiguan used to be one of the only compact crossovers available with three-row seating, but now the Mitsubishi Outlander is the only one.

Power comes from a turbocharged 2.0L I4 rated at 201 horsepower, which is up from 184 horsepower in the outgoing model. When combined with the extra power and 170 pounds of weight cut out, it should have markedly better performance than the previous Tiguan. VW is expecting better fuel economy, but EPA ratings aren’t out yet. A plug-in hybrid version of the next-generation Volkswagen Tiguan is coming to Europe, but the PHEV is unconfirmed for North America.

The redesigned cabin of the 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan retains an understated subtlety that the German brand is famous for but comes with thoroughly updated materials and technology. Available interior materials include genuine American walnut wood, Savona leather, and a wrapped, double-stitched center console, improving the quality of the surfaces that the driver touches every day. Notably, the gear shifter has moved to the steering column, making space for a bigger center console and more storage space.

The Digital Cockpit Pro customizable digital gauge cluster, which used to be exclusive to expensive Audi models, now comes standard on every 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan. The MIB4 infotainment system is operated via a standard 12.9-inch center display with a rotary dial in the center console.

The updated 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan is the latest in an industry-wide trend of cars from mainstream brands moving further upmarket. A few luxurious options include a head-up display, a larger 15-inch infotainment screen, a Harman Kardon 12-speaker audio system, quilted leather massaging seats, and a new “Atmospheres” feature that combines “synchronized ambient lighting and audio settings for a harmonious blend of sight and sound that enables you to tailor the vehicle’s mood to your preferences.”

Pricing of the 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan will be available closer to launch. If it’s priced like the rest of its segment, it should start at around $30k and will likely cross the $40k mark when fully loaded.

  2. The interior looks amazing as does the interior of the new Hyundai Ioniq 9. GM needs to step it up with its interior. First, offering more options than just black on most models. And ditch the abundant use of plastic.

    1. Unfortunately, I think plastic valve covers, oil pan plugs, oil pans, alternator pulleys, water pumps, hose clamps, suspension parts and more are here to stay, for ALL manufacturers.
