Matchbox Collectors 1979 K5 Chevy Blazer Drops This Week

A special new collectible from Matchbox Collectors is coming this week. It’s a classic 1979 Chevy Blazer with a sparkly gold and white two-tone paint job and beefy tires. According to the description from Matchbox, this Blazer model “boasts a half-cab, square body, and off-road tires. It’s style and power, firing on all cylinders.”

This 1979 Chevy Blazer replica hails from the “Rounded Line” second generation of the K5 Blazer. It has a boxy 2-door body with a retro color scheme. Highlights of this 1:64 scale model include a full-metal-based Zamac body with a dark sparkle gold finish, a light blue/green window tint, a dark brown interior, and Matchbox True Grip off-road tires with classic hubs.

There are no details on the pretend engine powering this toy, which could’ve been a 4.1L I6, 5.7L V8, or 6.6L V8.

The model comes in an acrylic case with a decorative outer box. The case has a background mimicking a Chevy showroom full of other K5 Blazer models, and the outer box emblazoned with the “Matchbox” logo has the classic orange color associated with the Matchbox brand.

“The 1960s and 70s marked the beginning of SUV mania in America,” the Matchbox listing says. “And the 1979 Chevy Blazer rumbled in to fan those boxy flames. It outsold rivals and became the most popular model year in Blazer history.”

If you’re into retro truck toys, this K5 Blazer would be an excellent companion to the diecast 1969 Chevy C10 with adjustable suspension that Hot Wheels offered to the Red Line Club earlier this month. They’re both two-tone Chevy trucks but with different personalities.

According to Mattel’s website, this model is priced at $25 per unit. Unlike more exclusive Hot Wheels Red Line Club models, there’s no membership requirement or purchase limit for this Matchbox Collectors SUV. The Chevy Blazer model is set to launch tomorrow, November 21st, 2024, at 12:00 p.m. ET / 9 a.m. PT.
