The Chevy Tahoe revolutionized how Americans transport their families when it came out in 1995. America quickly fell in love with this modern (at the time) full-size, 4-door SUV as a way to combine SUV versatility with truck-like capability. The original Tahoe based on the GMT400 platform used to be ubiquitous, but it’s getting harder to find clean, low-mile examples, and they’re starting to climb in value.
Here’s one such example: a 1998 Chevy Tahoe LS with approximately 19,000 miles on the clock up for auction on Bring a Trailer. It’s in a desirable spec for a few reasons. Being a 1998 model, it’s powered by a 5.7L V8 L31 rated at 255 horsepower and 335 pound-feet of torque. This was a big upgrade over the 200-horsepower L05 that powered earlier Tahoe models. It’s also equipped with rear barn doors, is finished in Indigo Blue Metallic, and appears to be in excellent condition commensurate with its low mileage.
Being a first-gen model, this Tahoe has two-row seating for up to five people and a generously sized cargo area. The Chevy Tahoe wasn’t available with a third row until the GMT800 generation came out in 2000.
A few modifications go a long way in changing the look of this full-size SUV. If it looks like it’s squatting a bit, it’s because of its lowered suspension system with React forged spindles and Belltech springs and shocks. The lowered stance is complemented by a set of 20-inch Billet Specialties wheels and AZ Pro Performance cross-drilled and slotted brake rotors at all four corners. These mods won’t help the Tahoe’s off-road chops, but that’s okay since this is a rear-wheel-drive model.
The Carfax shows no accidents and shows that this Tahoe was registered in Oklahoma from new until 2023, when it briefly moved to Texas. It now resides in California, where it’s up for auction now. An odometer reading on the Carfax from September 2024 confirms the authenticity of the low mileage on this SUV’s odometer.
As of this writing, the auction on this Chevy Tahoe has 11 bids, the high bid being $10,200. The auction ends on Saturday, November 9th, so get your bids in soon if you want a clean example of an SUV that’s becoming an automotive icon of the 1990s.
