Custom 1970 Chevy Chevelle Hits SEMA With 2,800HP Twin-Turbo Big Block

Blazin Rodz is making waves at SEMA 2024 with “Doughboy,” a fully customized 1970 Chevy Chevelle that utilizes the latest in custom manufacturing and design technology to jaw-dropping effect. This Chevelle combines truly staggering power figures with GT-inspired styling and high-end luxury touches, all wrapped into a single show-stopping package.

“Our goal with Doughboy was to create a vehicle that not only turns heads but offers a driving experience unlike any other,” says Blazin Rodz lead builder Riccardo Salatino.

Under the hood, Doughboy is powered by a monstrous 540 cubic-inch twin-turbo big block engine built by ACE Racing Engines, delivering an extraordinary 2,800 horsepower. To support such a high level of performance, Blazin Rodz equipped Doughboy with rear-mounted dual 10 GPM fuel pumps, a custom billet intake, air-to-water intercooler, and win precision 8385 Next Gen turbochargers. The powerhouse is paired with a fully built six-speed sequential transmission.

The Chevelle rides on built on a modified Art Morrison Enterprises chassis, which is enhanced with C7 Corvette front suspension geometry, as well as custom front and rear components crafted from billet aluminum for added strength. JRI hydraulic coilovers and custom sway bars allow for fine suspension adjustments, while high-performance Wilwood SX6R six-piston brakes plated in 24-karat gold help it stop. In the corners, you’ll find Michelin Sport Cup 2 tires on custom three-piece Kompression Wheels, sized at 20 inches by 13 inches in front, and 20 inches by 15 inches in the rear.

Meanwhile, Doughboy’s exterior design strikes a balance between classic muscle car heritage and modern innovation. The steel widebody was painstakingly sculpted by hand and 3D-scanned for precision, with Night Blue Metallic (a Porsche hue) covering the panels. Custom side-exit exhaust, a 3D-printed front bumper with integrated air ducts, and a carbon-fiber flat bottom contribute to improved aerodynamics and a sleek, aggressive look. In the rear is a custom carbon-fiber trunk lid with integrated cameras.

Inside, this custom Chevelle combines racing functionality with luxury. Avant-Garde Design customized the cabin with BMW carbon-fiber seats, a Motec C1812 display, and a tilt steering column with an Audi R8 steering wheel. The roll cage is crafted from chromoly and billet aluminum.

“We’ve pushed the boundaries in every aspect of this build, from the design to the engineering, and we’re excited to show the world what we’re capable of,” Salatino says.
