The GM Authority Take

Chevy Silverado sales during the third quarter of the year were in the red, while those of its corporate cousin, the GMC Sierra, were up, with the two truck nameplates moving in opposite directions of one another other. GM truck sales overall were slightly down overall, but combining all of its models, both ICE-based and battery-powered, kept the automaker’s title as the best-seller of full-size pickup trucks in the U.S., once again outselling crosstown rival Ford.

As more battery electric trucks enter the market, including the newest one from GM – the first-ever GMC Sierra EV, they are slowly beginning to make their mark. They cumulatively accounted for five percent of overall truck sales.

  1. Well, I could be wrong, but in my opinion, everything forward of the A-pillar is unappealing to the eye. Also the last 20 years haven’t seen any significant engine improvements or mileage increases. The 2.7 is fit for nothing more than consumers that never tow, let alone the fact that it’s fuel is hardly any better than the 5.3, without towing

  2. Sorry, I forgot to add that the 3.0 is by far the most significant improvement in the trucks, especially compared to the 2.7. What I don’t like, is you have to use a special synthetic oil, and we’re still using a DEF system, that’s total waste of money to the customers.

  3. The price is a BIG ISSUE.
