Competitive Sales Comparison (USA)

Chevy Equinox sales in Q3 2024 saw GM’s best-selling crossover fall several spots from the previous quarter to place seventh among 15 entries in the mainstream C-segment crossover segment.

The RAV4 and the CR-V were the only two models to break 100K deliveries. The Hyundai Tucson, one of two models in the segment from the Hyundai-Kia conglomerate, rose to take third with a two percent uptick to 53,801 units – about half of the two segment best-sellers. The Nissan Rogue maintained fourth with a 24 percent drop to 47,996 units, while the Kia Sportage – the Tucson’s corporate cousin, placed fifth with a nine percent uptick to 38,905 deliveries. The Subaru Forester placed sixth with a 17 percent slide to 37,249 units. The GM Authority Take

Though Chevy Equinox sales in the preceding quarter saw it break into the top three spots in the segment, sales fell considerably during Q3. We attribute the drop entirely to the model’s generational changeover. In fact, combining sales of the Equinox and GMC Terrain – which typically solidifies GM solidly into third place – didn’t help much this time around, placing The General in fifth place behind Toyota, Honda, Hyundai-Kia, and Ford.

We expect sales to return as buyers continue buying the next-generation 2025 Chevy Equinox, though sales are not likely to outperform the new top dog, the Chevy Trax.

We recently spent some wheel time with the all-new Equinox. Check out our in-depth tour of the interior of the 2025 Equinox RS in the video below.

Additionally, the Equinox’s cousin – the all-new 2025 GMC Terrain – should also help boost sales for The General in the mainstream C-segment crossover segment once it launches next year.

About Chevrolet Equinox

At the beginning of the year, GM unveiled the all-new 2025 Chevy Equinox, debuting the fourth generation of its popular compact crossover. Highlights include larger screens in the cabin, many new safety features, and the new-for-2025 Activ trim level, offering a more rugged setup for outdoorsy activities. The 2025 Chevy Equinox is wider and taller than the 2024 model, with a slightly more spacious interior. It also offers rear a camera mirror and washer.

The new Equinox is equipped with various new tech features and benefits from the GM Global B electronic architecture. Furthermore, the updated crossover gets traffic sign recognition and offers heated wiper park.

Here are all the interior colors and a visual comparison of the LT vs. the LT Midnight Edition, along with a front grilles across all trims.

However, the next-generation model offers the same turbocharged 1.5L I4 LSD gasoline engine as before, placing its powertrain mid-pack among competitors. Consequently, the 2025 Equinox fuel economy ratings show it to be slightly less efficient compared to the preceding generation.

Here are the 2025 Equinox towing capacities, and accessories are incoming.

About Chevrolet Equinox EV

Meanwhile, the first-ever 2024 Chevy Equinox EV debuted this past September. The new all-electric crossover rides on the GM BEV3 platform, featuring as standard a single GM electric drive motor powering the front wheels, rated at 213 horsepower and 236 pound-feet of torque. An optional two-motor, all-wheel drive system is available, rated at 288 horsepower and 333 pound-feet of torque.

Launch trim levels include 2LT and 3LT, along with the sporty 2RS and 3RS, plus the introductory 2RS Launch Edition. There is no 2024 Equinox EV 1LT trim level.

The Equinox comes standard with an 11-inch infotainment screen, an 11-inch driver information display, and 19-inch wheels. The upgraded infotainment screen measures in at an impressive 17.7 inches and is available on the 2LT and standard on the 3LT and two RS trims. Cosmetic options include available 20- and 21-inch wheels, a front LED light bar for 2LT and up models, a two-tone white roof for LT models, and a two-tone black roof for RS models.

Notably, GM’s semi-autonomous Super Cruise driver assist system is available on most trim levels of the all-new 2024 Equinox EV, yet the all-new model does not offer the option of a wireless phone charger on any trim.

GM confirmed the driving range for the 2024 Chevy Equinox EV AWD, which will offer an EPA-estimated 285 miles of range per charge, while the Equinox EV FWD will offer 319 miles of range. The all-electric compact crossover recently received revised horsepower and torque ratings following published efficiency ratings and towing capacities.

In real-world testing, the Equinox EV gets over 300 miles of highway range.

The 2025 Chevy Equinox EV arrives with an overhauled trim level lineup aimed at simplification. It won’t offer this paint color, yet it gets more horsepower and torque and a range increase.

Here are the 2025 Equinox EV paint colors, the interior colorways, and available wheels.

The Chevy Equinox EV is among 2025 North American Utility Vehicle of the Year finalists.

  1. Equinox EV not available with a wireless phone charger. Wait, what? May as well not be available with seats.

  2. The reason your sales are dropping is because you continue to delete options. Such as 2.0, motor, dual exhaust, trailering package, Premier package, super good sound system and giving the buyer the choice to add or delete options.

    2. The reason sales are dropping is because it’s an ICE. ICE sales have been slumping since 2017.

  3. I agree with you Michael. The drastic reduction in customer choices combined with higher prices and lower efficiency. Its unacceptable that a Toyota RAV4 Hybrid has the exact same MSRP and the ICE only Equinox and gets over 13 MPG better than the Equinox.

  4. I went shopping for a 2025 Equinox two weeks ago. I had some GM Card earnings and a $1000 military discount. I wanted a Summit White RS with Package III and the Technology Package. BTW, this will be my 6th Equinox.
The dealer told me that Summitt White wasn’t an option on the RS, and I couldn’t order one since even the Iridescent White has been discontinued. All the vehicles he located were missing the garage door opener. A couple of vehicles he found were in transit and wouldn’t make the time schedule for my military discount. He did locate one vehicle nearly four hours away, but a dealer trade was questionable. Without any GM rebates, the trade in price was more than I ever experienced. I always trade every three years for a like vehicle and my yearly mileage is consistent. If GM wants sales, then at least give prior GM customers a break. I’ll buy when the price is fair or move to Honda or Toyota after buying mostly GM vehicles for the past 50 years.

  5. Middling specs, pricing, and economy are going to earn you middling sales.

Same with equipping a ridiculously oversized touchscreen and a ridiculously undersized engine. The only things I need on that screen are the backup camera and cell phone integration. And the motor? Needs at the least the 2.0T back, or the 2.5 from the Traverse and give the Traverse a proper V6 again.

  6. So basically Equinox ICE sales dropped by near the same amount as Equinox EV sales went up. Hmmm,…why doesn’t GMA include Equinox EV sales numbers in this article?

  7. The fact that Ford and GM once dominated this sector and are now distant also- trans speaks volumes for the poor “leadership” these two companies had over the past two decades. What a disgrace.

  8. Back in Q3, most of those sales were of the remaining ’24s, which were discounted a fraction of what I thought they would be. Now, watch what happens during Q4. I’m convinced it’s a ploy to get buyers into the Equinox EV, which also won’t work. If Trump causes a Great Recession or worse, GM is in BIG trouble. No sympathy.

    2. Equinox ICE sales are down roughly 9,000-10,000 units, while Equinox EV sales were roughly up the same amount.

  9. Once again the boo-birds have missed the point. Combined Equinox/Terrain sales YTD 2024 are 208,120, almost the same as YTD 2023, good for 4th place behind Hyundai/Kia, and more than Ford Escape/Bronco.

And since there are no deals on the RAV4 or CRV, the upfront purchase cost of the GMs is almost always less, which means lower car payments. Total cost of ownership is just that, and includes purchase cost, loan finance charges, and scheduled maintenance.
