Competitive Sales Comparison (USA)

Chevy Colorado sales kept the Bow Tie brand’s midsize pickup truck in second place in its segment when ranked by sales volume during Q3 2024.

The Colorado (see running Chevy Colorado sales) remained in second with a 13 percent bump to 28,887 units, while the Ford Ranger (see running Ford Ranger sales) moved up to third place with a 110 percent leap to 15,504 units, also recovering from a generational changeover. The Nissan Frontier traded spots to take fourth with a 22 percent swell to 14,294 units. The GMC Canyon (see running GMC Canyon sales), the Colorado’s corporate cousin, kept its fifth place spot with a 33 percent upswing to 10,121 units. The GM Authority Take

While Chevy Colorado sales were in the green, the truck made the smallest gains among competitors, even failing to keep up with the average segment growth rate. The good news is that the Colorado bested the Gladiator, which was the only model whose sales were in the red. Both the all-new Toyota Tacoma and next-gen Ford Ranger seem to have worked through their respective generational changeovers, as each model saw robust sales and sales gains, as the Tacoma grew its lead even further.

Having launched for the 2023 model year, the current-generation Colorado solidly remains in second place in the segment, solidly outperforming the third-place Ranger by over 13K deliveries.

And while combining sales of the GMC Canyon with those of the Colorado was not enough for GM to catch up to Toyota and its 42 percent segment share, The General’s midsize trucks did earn a 28 percent share.

About Chevrolet Colorado

In May 2023, GM unveiled the all-new 2024 Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison, the highly capable off-road midsize pickup truck developed in partnership with American Expedition Vehicles (AEV). For 2024, the ZR2 Bison is offered as a standalone trim level rather than as a package. In addition to a wealth of standard components from AEV, the 2024 Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison also incorporates development input from off-road racing champion Chad Hall and was refined on the Rubicon Trail to boot, adding new features like front and rear jounce control dampers.

The 2024 Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison, incidentally, gets a standard bed-mounted spare, a new launch control feature, and a new Recovery Package. Its arrival means the Chevy Colorado ZR2 Desert Boss Special Edition package hasn’t returned for the 2024 model year, indirectly replaced by the Bison.

Furthermore, among the many changes and updates for the new model year, the 2024 Chevy Colorado drops the 8-inch driver information center, replaced by the 11-inch DIC across the lineup, and drops the mid-level Turbo Plus engine, adopting the GM’s new TurboMax engine branding as part of changes and updates for the 2024 model year. That means the 2024 Colorado will offer just the base L2R engine on WT and LT trim levels and the High Output L3B TurboMax engine on all other trims while optional on the WT and LT. On a related note, here are the towing capacities of the 2024 Colorado.

The 2024 Colorado also offers a new Sports Bar Package and new Off-Road Lighting Package, while Trail Boss and ZR2 trim levels now have the option of a new off-road front bumper package for enhanced off-road capability.

The fastest-turning trim level for the third-generation Colorado is the range-topping ZR2. Overall, the Chevy Colorado was among the fastest-turning new vehicles in March 2024, placing sixth on the list and slotting beneath the GMC Canyon.

Production of the 2025 Chevy Colorado is scheduled to begin November 25th, a full week earlier than planned.

  1. Thanks for including the Ridgeline numbers, due to it being cross-shopped with this category, even though it is larger. I would like to also see the Maverick numbers here, It is also a significant cross-shop with these trucks. Given its large sales numbers, mid-size shoppers seem to like its truck-like shape, size, price and fuel economy.

  2. I want a new one, but until GM fixes the denting roof, returns the power passenger seat, and provides physical controls for the head/fog lights I will be keeping my 2019.

    1. They have a TSB for the roof, but that I believe will take time to fix…expect the fourth or fifth model year…or the end of the generation…

      Reply
      1. Yes. There is a TSB. The TSB has been proven to not fix the problem. Try again.

        1. Then it probably is a QC issue. It will get fixed down the road most likely..you misread my point.

  3. Tacoma sales ARE NOT DUE TO IT BEING MORE RELIABLE…the 8 speeds are horrible nowadays…and the engine is a mess…

  4. My wishlist for the Colorado/Canyon twins would be an ext cab and at least one bed size option, one additional interior color choice across the board, a decent looking alloy wheel option for WT’s and a better looking less drab std wheel for LT’s, a return to proper headlight controls and better quality control. A V6 twin turbo option like Ford is doing would be nice too but I wouldn’t expect that.

  5. I have a 2024 Colorado ZR2 and have been on the “coloradocanyonfans” web site for help and STILL cannot get my IPhone 10 to charge on the wireless charger. Just a heads up.

  6. The Colorado needs to go back to the power passenger seat for sure in their upper level trucks for the price. Colorado sales would have been higher if they would have made more ZR2 models which sell a lot faster. Plenty of Colorados around in the lower trims but ZR2 models are scarce. The V6 option would have been a big plus also. Big mistake discontinuing it.

  8. Extended cab with Sunroof, long box, V6 (or even a 5.3 V8-Plenty of engine bay room)….and I’ll order one tomorrow…until then my 2019 ZR2 in the above layout (minus sunroof) is fine!
