The GM Authority Take
Cadillac Lyriq sales leveled out compared to the previous quarter, actually selling a few less units this time around. In any event, the Lyriq remains the runner-up in its segment, though a distant second compared to the Tesla Model Y, which continues to dominate with 88 percent segment share. While Model Y sales grew ten percent, the Lyriq grew at a much higher rate of nearly 140 percent.
Interestingly, the 2024 Acura ZDX electric crossover actually uses GM Ultium EV technology and is produced at the same facility as the Lyriq.
Meanwhile, GM recently teased the 2026 Cadillac Lyriq-V, the upcoming high-performance variant of the all-electric luxury crossover.
The General is also expanding the markets where it sells the Lyriq, taking it beyond the typical U.S., Canada, Mexico, and China markets by also launching it in the Middle East, France, Germany, South Korea, and Australia.
About Cadillac Lyriq
The 2024 Cadillac Lyriq arrives with several important changes. See 2024 Cadillac Lyriq updates and changes.
Among these is the introduction of the new Tech and Sport trim levels, with the Luxury trim level slotting between those. Furthermore, the 2024 Lyriq Luxury 3 and Sport 3 are now available with 20-inch wheels, plus a new 22-inch Gloss Black alloy wheel option is available for the entire trim lineup. Check out our feature comparison of these 2024 Lyriq trims: Luxury 2, Sport 2 vs. Luxury 3, Sport 3.
All three trim levels are available in the U.S. with either rear-wheel or all-wheel drive.
The 2024 Lyriq is the first GM vehicle in North America to feature 5G network connectivity, standard on all trim levels. It also gets a new power panoramic dual-panel sunroof, a newly available Nappa Leather seating package, and a new trailer hitch.
Regardless of the trim level selected, the 2024 Lyriq maximum range-per-charge is 314 miles for rear-wheel-drive units, with motor output set at 340 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque, and 307 miles for all-wheel-drive units, with motor output set at 500 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque. Additionally, the 2024 Lyriq AWD offers a new Velocity powertrain upgrade, boosting torque by 74 pound-feet, raising the peak rating from 450 to 524 pound-feet. GM asserts that the zero to 60 mph time improves from the standard AWD variant’s 4.7 seconds to 4.4.
The 2025 Cadillac Lyriq follows with some notable changes. This includes dropping the base Tech trim level for 2025, which was notably missing these top 10 features.
The 2025 Lyriq gets paint color availability changes, with some color options available for the 2024 model year being restricted to one of the two remaining trim levels for 2025. It offers blue, bronze and red accent packages, the ambient lighting adds 100 new colors, and a front passenger position memory feature becomes available. Additionally, the 2025 Lyriq will use 24 percent fewer parts than the 2024 model, and the 2025 Lyriq also gets increased horsepower ratings and range in the U.S.

Model Y isn’t a luxury vehicle by any means. It’s just mainstream like Chevys, Fords, VWs, Toyotas
IMHO none of the Teslas are luxury.
They are not positioned as luxury products, but they transact closer to luxury cars than mainstream ones.
It’s great to see some decent volume for Lyriq…hope the momentum builds and the new models can find an audience.
I would be careful saying Lyriq grew at a much faster pace than Model Y. Sure, the %’s are high when you’re building off a low base, but the Lyriq grew its volume by 4,206 in Q3, while Model Y grew by 9,000, or more than double the Lyriq increase. In fact, the Model Y’s incremental growth was more than the Lyriq’s total volume for the qtr. Same holds true for the year. It’s unbelievably resiliant given how old it is, but It’s got to start giving back volume at some point.
Maybe we should track all GM EV SUV sales versus Model Y? I know that’s giving GM a bit of a pass, but would be interesting to see how they’re chipping away with all the new models of late. Critical that they find a way payout all the investments in the platform.
Tesla doesn’t report US number for the Y, curious how you are estimating those? Or are those global numbers?
Also, would definitely add in Blazer EV and Prologue EV sales numbers to the comparisons and probably even the Equinox EV, as someone else commented the Y is not on the same level premium as the Caddy.
Right, Tesla doesn’t split out sales by model line, so we get the the figures from financial analysts. They are specific to the US market, not global.
