C5 Corvette Driver Rear-Ends Pickup Truck, Contemplates Hit-And-Run: Video

A new viral video shows the moment a 2001 Chevy Corvette C5 collides with a pickup truck, prompting the Vette driver to momentarily consider driving off. The video shows the collision and the Corvette driver’s subsequent indecision over whether or not to stay. Luckily for all involved, the C5 Corvette driver eventually opts to stick around.

A Chevy Corvette quickly approaches a pickup truck.

The video was recently posted to social media, and is just over a minute long. The video opens with a rear-facing view behind a pickup truck. We see the truck bed covered by a tonneau cover. The scenery shows a long, straight country two-lane, with farmland on either side of the road. The conditions are clear, with blue sky above and clear, dry pavement underneath the pickup. Looking at the video overlay, the incident occurred on November 10th, 2024, around 12:42 p.m. local time.

As the video gets under way, we see a black dot on the horizon quickly approaching the rear end of the pickup truck. As the black dot approaches, we see that it’s the front end of a C5 Corvette. The overlay indicates that the truck is traveling around 60 mph, which means the Vette is traveling well above the speed limit.

It’s unclear what the Corvette driver was thinking, or if they simply weren’t paying attention, but the sports car flies up behind the truck and tries to swerve around the pickup at the last moment. Instead, the front end of the sports car clips the pickup, sending the Vette off the road.

The video switches to a front-facing camera, where we see the Vette bouncing into the adjacent grass off the shoulder, still traveling quite fast. The driver eventually gets the Vette under control, stopping it on the opposite side of the road. The truck driver pulls over and waits for the Corvette driver to pull over to the right side of the road. Suddenly, we see the Corvette driver start to drive off, prompting the truck driver to follow, reading out the license plate. Luckily, the Vette driver eventually pulls over.

According to the poster, the driver admitted they were thinking about driving away until they noticed the pickup truck following them.
