Hip-hop superstar Kendrick Lamar shocked the music world last Friday with the surprise release of a new album entitled GNX. Naturally, it caught our attention because it’s named after the iconic Buick GNX, of which Lamar is a proud owner. Buick is capitalizing on the sudden burst of attention with an Instagram post posing a Buick Envista like Lamar’s GNX in a recent video on his YouTube channel featuring the car.

The Instagram post is captioned simply with the headphones emoji, implying that the brand is enjoying the new Kendrick Lamar album named after one of its most desirable cars. The photo is of the driver-side profile of a Buick Envista in the sporty ST trim finished in Ebony Twilight Metallic paint (GBO) with 19-inch black painted aluminum wheels (RVB).
The comments on Buick’s Instagram post appear to be a mix of people who get the reference to the new Kendrick Lamar album and others who don’t. Several commenters tagged Kendrick Lamar, hoping he’d notice the recognition from Buick. Others simply commented “GNX,” and others made positive comments about the Buick Envista itself.
As the average GM Authority reader is undoubtedly aware, it’s been decades since Buick has marketed a coupe in the U.S., and it doesn’t even sell sedans in its home market anymore. Therefore, Buick has determined that the model in its current lineup that most closely resembles the GNX is a front-wheel-drive 3-cylinder subcompact crossover, the Buick Envista. At least they got the color scheme right.
Even with a spotlight from Kendrick Lamar, it’s highly unlikely the Buick GNX will make a comeback, no matter how much commenters on social media request it. But it’s still nice to see a legendary muscle car that was largely unknown outside of GM enthusiast circles until last week get the attention it deserves.

Who is Kendrick Lamar?
Hedley Lamar’s brother, maybe?
How about a midyear 2025 Twin Turbo 6, RWD GNX 1087 HP with slicks, McLaren Tuned! Definitely doable if they bring back Buick in the U.S.
Give Kendrick to that. It would be nice for GM.
Nothing screams GNX like a three cylinder Korean turd!
All show and no go.
TYPICAL G.M…. FALL FLAT ON THEIR FACE WITH MISSED OPPORTUNITY TO EVEN BE IN TOUCH WITH LOYAL WOULD BE BUYERS OR NEW CUSTOMERS!
CLUELESS OUT OF TOUCH BEAN COUNTING MANAGEMENT ONCE AGAIN!
SWING AND A MISS EVERY TIME WHEN IT COMES TO PERFORMANCE MARKETING!!
An Envista GNX poser? Possibly the ugliest Buick of all time. The suits at GM seem determined to kill off the Brand in the USA. Trump’s proposed import tariffs will be the final nail in Buick’s coffin.
