For anyone that lives in a more rural part of the country, the occasional experience with the local wildlife is more or less par for the course. Such was the case for a few folks in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, who recently found an entire black bear family rummaging through their GMC Canyon Denali pickup. The incident was caught on camera and uploaded to social media.
According to the video overlay, the incident occurred last month around 7:17 p.m., local time.
In the video, we see a black bear casually cruising up a steep driveway, approaching a house. A second camera angle captures the GMC Canyon pickup parked underneath a deck. The bear is seen walking up to the side of the truck before putting its paws on the sidesteps and reaching up to the driver’s side door handle. Clearly, the bear knows what it’s doing, and seems to open the door with ease, revealing the luxurious GMC Canyon Denali interior.
The bear wastes no time in climbing up into the cabin, sniffing around for something tasty to eat. We next get a look back at the front of the house, where a trio of bear cubs are seen trailing after their mother. The next shot shows the bear mom back at the truck, where it moves to the back door, easily opening it in the search of dinner. The cubs then join her in the cabin.
Suddenly, we hear the Canyon’s owner screaming off-camera: “Hey, get out of my truck!”
After some commotion, the owner manages to coax the bear family away.
“The bears in this neighborhood are very active,” the folks write in the video description. “Good practice is to not leave food in your vehicle, roll windows up all the way, and lock your doors. This was the second time this has happened to us. I had set my doors to lock automatically after the first event. Something obviously went wrong.”

Well at least they didn’t take it for a joyride. That would have been unBEARable. Maybe it was the bear necessities. But seriously though, I hope they didn’t do any damage to the beautiful truck!
Growing up in New York City I always lock my doors for my cars and house. Force of habit kept a bear from doing the same now that I live in Pennsylvania. Hey you never know who’s at your door.
At least they could have shut the doors.
