All Chevy High Country Models Have Ditched This Styling Feature

The various models in the Chevy High Country lineup have undergone a subtle yet significant styling shift, bidding farewell to the bronze “Godric” grille accents that once set them apart. Introduced with the 2019 Silverado 1500 High Country, the bronze accents added a distinctive color contrast to the otherwise polished silver grille bars. This unique touch was subsequently adopted by the 2020 Silverado HD, and later by the 2021 Tahoe High Country, Suburban High Country, and the previous generation of the Traverse High Country, making the bronze-accented grille an identifying feature for the Chevy High Country model line. Now, however, the bronze accents are dead and gone.

The phase-out began with the Chevy Silverado 1500, which dropped the Godric bronze accents for the 2023 model year. Shortly after, the Chevy Silverado HD followed suit. By the 2025 model year, the Chevy Tahoe, Chevy Suburban, and Chevy Traverse High Country models had also removed the bronze detailing, opting instead for either more chrome in the grille, or glossy black / piano black finishes, depending on the model.

The deletion of the Godric bronze styling accents lend the Chevy High Country lineup a more monochromatic look, aligning with broader trends in automotive styling favoring sleek, metallic, or glossy elements over colored accents. Nevertheless, the change isn’t necessarily appreciated by all Chevy fans.

The deletion of the bronze accents was the subject of a recent GM Authority poll. According to the poll results, 71 percent of respondents voiced a preference for the Silverado’s original bronze-accented grille, seeing them as a signature High Country feature that added character. By contrast, 29 percent favored the new all-silver designs, appreciating the cleaner, more uniform appearance.

Of course, the Chevy High Country lineup isn’t without other distinguishing styling features, with a plethora of chrome and other polished trim standing out as one obvious facet of the High Country design. Still, for some, a little bit of bronze can go a long way.

  1. I had a Traverse HC park next to me Friday afternoon and I thought all that bronze looked like silver parts were “turning bad”. They look AWFUL. Why buy an HC anyway? Get an Enclave for a few buckos more. Really. HCs should not exist.

  2. The reason they’re ditching it is that every one of the High Country bronze accents peels off within the 1st 15,000 miles. They can spin it however they want, but that’s the reason. They warrantied thousands of HC grilles. They look like crap after two years.

  3. I like my ’24 HD headlights better than the the ’20-’23’s, but I liked the bronze accents a lot. I wish they would have kept them for the ’24 models.
