Though GMC sales were up during the quarter, nearly half of the brand’s eight model lines were in the red.
The regular-length GMC Yukon and extended-length Yukon XL full-size SUV family posted the biggest sales gain, while the all-new GMC Acadia, now a bigger version of the marque’s three-row crossover, and GMC Terrain compact crossover both saw decreases.
The next-generation Terrain and refreshed Yukon and Yukon XL duo arrive later this year.
Big Red’s trucks posted higher sales volumes, with the GMC Sierra full-size pickup range remaining the volume leader with a 10 percent growth, and the midsize GMC Canyon growing 33 percent – the biggest increase for the brand for the quarter.
The first-ever GMC Sierra EV full-size pickup truck joins the GMC Hummer EV Pickup and the GMC Hummer EV SUV to expand the Professional Grade brand’s all-electric offerings. Notably, sales of the two Hummer EVs are combined on the Pickup line item.
Not surprisingly, sales of the dated GMC Savana were down this quarter. Along with the Chevy Express, the full-size van is an old vehicle that traces its roots to the 1990s, being the oldest GM model currently in production. And while The General previously entertained plans to redesign the Chevy Express for the 2027 model year, keeping the ICE powertrain, it may have canceled any such plans and instead elected to simply rebadge the all-electric BrightDrop vans as Chevys.
To date, GM has sold more than 3 million Chevy Express and GMC Savana units.
