Texas Man Reunited With 1967 Chevy Camaro SS He Sold For Diaper Money In 1983

When most of us sell a car, we never see it again. This is especially true if it’s a classic, like a 1967 Chevy Camaro SS. However, here’s one exception: a dad who was reunited with his Camaro that he sold for diaper money in 1983. That boy who needed diapers found the car, restored it, and returned it to his old man.

Jared Guynes posted his story on Facebook along with photos of the moment he gave his dad the Camaro. “In 1983, a man named Earl learned that his young wife was pregnant with his first son,” Guynes writes. As many young fathers do, Earl did the responsible thing and sold his car to feed his family. “Dad would always joke that he had to sell his Camaro for diaper money,” Guynes continues. “There has always been a twinkle in his eye when he talked about this car, and even though he would never admit it, I knew deep down he loved that car more than any other he had ever owned.”

The car in question is a 1967 Chevy Camaro SS 350 finished in Marina Blue with white stripes. It’s equipped with an automatic transmission, dual exhaust, and Cragar aftermarket wheels wrapped in retro BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires with raised white letters. The original engine would’ve been the 5.7L V8 L48, rated at 295 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque. SS upgrades for the first model year of the Camaro include chassis upgrades for better handling, the aforementioned stripe package, a unique hood with non-functional air inlets, and SS badging everywhere.

In secret, Jared Guynes tracked down his father’s Camaro in 2022. He says it was in rough condition when he found it, so he gave it a full restoration. Based on the photos, it appears to have been a very clean and professional job restoring the Camaro to show car condition. He even found period-correct 15-inch Cragar wheels.

Jared revealed the car to his father, Earl, on his 65th birthday, handed him the keys, and reportedly saw him cry for the third time in his life. He ended the story by thanking his dad for the diaper money.
