The C7 Corvette ZR1 is already a rare car. It’s even rarer to see one on a gravel road in rural Canada thoroughly stripped down to a carcass, but that’s exactly what CTV News has discovered.
The shell of a Corvette ZR1, believed to have been dumped on the road sometime in the night, is puzzling police and citizens in the Barrie, Ontario area. Specifically, it’s a 2019 Chevy Corvette ZR1 convertible finished in Sebring Orange Tintcoat (G26). According to CTV News, it’s believed to be one of only three C7 ZR1 convertible models in Canada, but other sources say as many as 25 were allocated to Canada. Either way, it’s a very rare car in The Great White North.
“We do have the odd old chair and couch thrown out here, but this is the first time I saw a car,” a local resident told CTV News. Adding more mystery to the story, another local resident reported that this isn’t the first abandoned car carcass she’s seen in the area. “There was a white car, a shell of a car, just dropped off on the side of the road, and not too long before that, there was another one on the same road,” Ashley Zemlanko told CTV News.
The orange Corvette ZR1 was reported stolen from a car collector in Grimsby, Ontario, on August 15th, 2024. Although the car has been found, the owner is probably not too pleased with its condition. Almost every body panel has been removed, the wheels are gone, the engine is missing, and the bulk of the interior has been scrapped.
“It has been secured for forensic examination,” Niagara police told CTV News in an email. “We will be working with the OPP over the course of the ongoing investigation.”
As of this writing, no suspects have been identified in this mysterious case of a butchered C7 Corvette ZR1.
The ultra-high-performance ZR1 model joined the Chevy Corvette C7 lineup for the 2019 model year, which was the sole model year for this variant. Available as a coupe or convertible, the C7 ZR1 was the fastest and most powerful production Corvette at the time that it came out and delivered true supercar performance. Power came from the supercharged 6.2L LT5 V8 rated at 755 horsepower and 715 pound-feet of torque.

1. GM needs to address and fix the theft issues of C7s and Camaro6. This is ridiculous how easy it is to steal. Takes 5 minutes with an Amazon tablet.
2. Stop voting for politicians that are soft on crime.
This makes me sick to see what criminals get away with. This was the owners pride and joy, and now he or she feels violated for life. I hope they catch the people that did this, and they get a lot of time behind bars. However, I am sure this was probably done by a sophisticated group of thieves.
On the sophisticate:
Right. But that and intelligence are 2 different things. Look how much good stuff they left! Actually, the whole car is worth parting out, and they left half of it! Wow. Stupid.
Even if none of what’s left was valuable, it was stupid to leave the evidence for the police.
They left a lot of parts behind. Trunk lid, windshield, convertible top just to name a few. I live in the New Orleans area, and you’ll find this sort of thing on the shoulder of the interstate on occasion and when you do there is NOTHING left but the Body Shell.
Another reason as to why I love these cars but won’t risk owning one. People go after these cars the same way the would a Charger or Challenger with no revert for their actions. It’s absolutely sickening.
Dodge Challenger or Charger are not even in the same class as that ZR1
I’m just surprised that the cops care ?
The cops do care but their hands are tied.
There’s a chance the engine and trans will find itself down the road in a custom build or a resto- mod.
