Certain GM vehicles equipped with the semi-autonomous Super Cruise driver assist system need the automated driving mapping control module updated at the dealership, according to a recently released Customer Satisfaction Program from General Motors.
According to the bulletin, reprogramming the module will enable Super Cruise high-definition maps to update frequently in order to add new routes, along with adding any changes to existing road mapping.
The models that need the special Super Cruise update include the following, according to Customer Satisfaction Program number N242441560:
- 2023 Cadillac CT4
- 2024 Cadillac CT4
- 2023 Cadillac Escalade
- 2024 Cadillac Escalade
- 2023 Cadillac Escalade ESV
- 2024 Cadillac Escalade ESV
- 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500
- 2023 Chevy Silverado 1500
- 2024 Chevy Silverado 1500
- 2023 Chevy Suburban
- 2023 Chevy Tahoe
- 2024 Chevy Tahoe
- 2022 GMC Sierra 1500
- 2023 GMC Sierra 1500
- 2024 GMC Sierra 1500
- 2023 GMC Yukon
- 2024 GMC Yukon
- 2023 GMC Yukon XL
- 2024 GMC Yukon XL
These vehicles are marked in the GM Global Warranty Management system, with their Investigate Vehicle History screen containing the notice “Open,” to indicate the update is needed. The update to the Super Cruise control module requires no new parts and is entirely handled via software, a process requiring approximately 20 to 30 minutes depending on the specific vehicle model.
Notably, the list of vehicles involved does not include any vehicle models that kept the “older” configuration of Super Cruise, and which therefore do not get the expanded Super Cruise coverage. Examples include the Chevy Bolt EUV, which did not get additional map coverage, the Cadillac XT6, which also failed to receive expanded driving coverage, and the Cadillac CT6, likewise excluded from the expansion.
The customer satisfaction program is in effect until October 31st, 2026.
As a reminder, the Super Cruise system was available for 15 different General Motors nameplates as of the first quarter (Q1) of 2024. The 2024 calendar year is set to introduce the system on three EVs, the Chevy Equinox EV, the Cadillac Optiq and the Cadillac Escalade IQ.
Meanwhile, a June trademark filing indicated Super Cruise coverage will be extended to Mexico, though there is no official announcement or timeline as of this writing.
