Some 2024 GMC Sierra HD Trucks To Require Front Camera Reprogramming

Certain units of the 2024 GMC Sierra HD pickup truck require reprogramming of the front camera control module, with a fix currently available at dealerships, according to a recent GM service update describing the issue.

The affected 2024 GMC Sierra HD trucks may experience a disabled Automatic Emergency Braking system (RPO code UHY) as a result of the incorrect programming of the front camera module, GM Service Update N242454750 says.

Eliminating this issue does not require replacing any physical components. Instead, dealers are instructed by the service update to reprogram the front camera module with new, correct software. This process requires about 30 minutes to complete, including initial verification of the truck’s involvement using the GM Global Warranty Management system.

Dealerships will provide this update to customer vehicles brought to the location for any reason, free of charge through the end of the 2024 GMC Sierra HD pickup’s New Vehicle Limited Warranty period. The dealer should also check the Investigate Vehicle History page for any Sierra units in stock and apply the fix to vehicles in current inventory.

The HD variant of the GMC Sierra received a mid-cycle refresh for 2024, including significant updates to exterior styling, the interior, and features and technology. The 2025 GMC Sierra HD ushers in some modest changes and updates, along with increased prices over the 2024 model year by several hundred dollars for most trims.

Propulsion is supplied to both the 2024 and 2025 model years by two available engines. Equipped as standard, the naturally aspirated 6.6L V8 L8T gasoline engine develops 401 horsepower and 464 pound-feet of torque. Optionally, buyers can choose the 6.6L V8 L5P turbodiesel Duramax engine, which was uprated from its pre-refresh output of 445 horsepower and 910 pound-feet of torque to the current 470 horsepower and 975 pound-feet of torque. The Allison-branded 10-speed automatic transmission provides cog swaps for both powerplants.

Available drivetrains for the heavy-duty GMC Sierra include RWD and 4WD. Under the sheet metal, the pickup rides on a more capable variant of the GM T1 platform. Production takes place exclusively at the GM Flint plant in Michigan.

  1. So if the front camera controls emergency braking, what happens when that camera is covered by ice or snow? All stop?
