Some 2024 Chevy Silverado 1500 Units Were Shipped With The Wrong Exhaust Tips

General Motors has issued a Service Update for a fix for a problem in which certain 2024 Chevy Silverado 1500 trucks were shipped with Chrome Exhaust tips rather than the correct Black exhaust tips equipped on the pickup’s exhaust system.

While the number of 2024 Chevy Silverado 1500 units shipped with the incorrect exhaust tips installed is unclear, all affected vehicles are in dealership inventory according to Service Update N242452140.

Dealerships are instructed to replace the incorrect Chrome exhaust tips on the affected Silverado 1500 trucks with the correct Black tips. The vehicle should be confirmed to be marked as “Open” on its Investigate Vehicle History screen in the inventory management system prior to the replacement. The update is in effect until October 31st, 2025.

Notably, this issue affects only 2024 Chevy Silverado units equipped with the Midnight Edition package (RPO code WJP), the Realtree Special Edition package (RPO code G0S) or the Dark Appearance Package (RPO CWK). On the 2024 Silverado 1500, the Midnight Edition was available on the Custom Trail Boss, LT Trail Boss and High Country trim levels. The Realtree Special Edition was optional on the Custom Trail Boss only.

  1. Probably still shipping the wrong lifters and 8 speeds, but turn a blind eye on doing a recall on them.

  3. Why do you need different exhaust outlets based on edition package? Would anyone have even noticed? Today’s engineering by marketers is beyond out of control.

There was recent news how GM wants to aggressively reduce their number of parts. Good, they can start with # like this.

    1. because if the truck is a blacked out edition, who wants chrome tips? Thats like wearing all black suit and than Diamond studded shoes.

  4. Good grief talk about taking things way out of control. Why does the exhaust tip need to be black? If I was somehow forced into buying one of these silly murdered out black editions I would look at it as a plus if the exhaust tips were chrome.
