General Motors unveiled the most-recent Chevy Silverado HD refresh for the 2024 model year, showing off a long list of updates and changes, including revised exterior styling, an overhauled cabin, and a few updates to the drivetrain as well. Meanwhile, the 2025 Chevy Silverado HD debuts its own range of changes, including the launch of the new Silverado HD Trail Boss package, thus completing Chevrolet’s Trail Boss lineup. Now, GM Authority has learned that the new Silverado HD Trail Boss package has been quite popular in its first few months on sale.
According to GM Authority sources, a third of all 2025-model-year Silverado HD LT and LTZ orders include the new Trail Boss package, underlining the popularity of the off-roader-spec, heavy-duty pickup. The new package has been available for only a few months so far.
The new Chevy Silverado HD Trail Boss package is only offered for LT and LTZ trim levels, slotting in below the more-capable ZR2 package with regard to the pickup’s off-roading options. The package adds in a variety of extras geared specifically for the local trails, such as shocks and suspension bits from the Z71 trim level, as well as unique 20-inch black wheels wrapped in off-road tires. The package also includes several aesthetic changes, such as unique Trail Boss bed decals, red recovery hooks, blacked-out trim and badging, and blacked-out bumpers up front and in the rear.
As for the mechanical specs, the refreshed 2025 Chevy Silverado HD is equipped with the 6.6L L8T V8 gasoline engine as standard, while the 6.6L V8 L5P turbodiesel Duramax engine is an optional extra. The 6.6L V8 L5P is rated at 470 horsepower and 975 pound-feet of torque, while both powerplant options connect to the Allison-branded 10-speed automatic transmission as standard, replacing the GM six-speed equipped by gasoline-powered models prior to the most recent 2024-model-year refresh.
Under the body panels, the Chevy Silverado HD rides on a more-capable variant of the GM T1 platform. Vehicle production takes place at the GM Flint plant in Michigan and GM Oshawa plant in Canada.

No lift = no dice. It is just a sticker package at that point with some added features and a skid plate. They really need to separate it more from the Z71 and follow the other two, small lift to differentiate from Z71 and lesser shocks/tires/features to separate from the ZR2.
I think that lift is not needed and may eliminate some buyers. 2500 is already tall and a lift would make it not fit in a standard garage opening of 7′ I didn’t consider the ZR2 for that reason. The truck prices are already eye watering so a little more capable than stock, fits in garage and the look, will fit most people- otherwise, buy a ZR2.
