Pontiac Firebird Attempts Donuts In Intersection, Ends Up Eating Light Pole: Video

A new viral video shows a classic ’70s-era Pontiac Firebird attempting to impress onlookers with some donuts in the middle of an intersection, only to lose control and crash into a light pole.

The clip opens with the red Pontiac Firebird stopped at a traffic light, surrounded by a few other classic GM muscle cars, including a 1970 Chevelle SS and a late-‘60s Chevy Camaro. It seems likely that a nearby car meet was the source of the gathering, with several onlookers sitting and standing on the sidewalk, clearly there to watch the show.

When the light turns green, the Chevelle and Camaro immediately light up their tires, inching forward in a cloud of smoke, much to the delight of the onlookers. The Firebird, not to be outdone, stomps on the throttle as well. However, rather than simply taking off down the street like the others, the Firebird’s driver decides to spice things up by whipping out a few donuts in the middle of the intersection.

For a few seconds, the Firebird spins in place, sending up a large plume of vaporized rubber and drawing the attention of the bystanders. However, the show quickly turns dangerous as the driver attempts to regain control and exit the intersection. In the chaos, the Firebird veers into a nearby street, smashing directly into a light pole.

The video ends with a shot of the aftermath, revealing significant damage to the Firebird’s front end. The once-pristine classic now has crumpled bodywork, a harsh reminder of the risks associated with reckless driving in public spaces.

While the muscle car crowd surely loves a good burnout or donut, it should be obvious that this sort of thing is best confined to an appropriate environment far from traffic and obstacles. Hopefully that’s a lesson this particular driver won’t forget.
